I'm getting spammed hard

by
Getting a lot of "artists" hitting me up on my latest stories for commissions.  I think 10 this week.  I'm assuming they're bots because one hit me 4 times in a row with the same spiel.

This going around for everybody?

I have experienced it.  Just forward the e-mails to an administrator as spam.  That's what I was told when I had a similar problem.

mhm forward suspicious ones to the admin team and then ban the user from your account,

I haven't seen much myself but i have definitely gotten this stuff in the past. I used to have PMs turned off and I think I got flagged as a non-viable target after a while lol

I'd hate to have to turn off my PMs since I rather enjoy personal engagement with others here.  It's just annoying that seeing a notification had gone from "Ooh?" to "Aw, fuck..." in a matter of days.

What trash! Out of all the places on the internet to shit up with this, lmao.

It's like when you see landscaping companies making husk accounts on here

Weird thing was it was on a post I made 6 years ago that only has 88 views.  Maybe they were hoping I wouldn't notice?

I think they just scatter-shot random submission IDs or something. There's like 99% likelihood it's not a human doing it

I think if you actually talk to them it just encourages them, even if you tell them to kick rocks.  The first one this week I replied: "You have a new account with nothing on it.  I'm not falling for this" and then got a pile of them over the next few days.

ther not hitting my IB but my discord gets 1-2 a DAY of people i dont know trying to friend me with requests like 'I am ana rtist, I charge this much here is some of my work" then they link to a random x profile with allmost no art on it or wildly different art styles...

I had a few random friend requests on Discord that never said anything to me.  Probably they're phishing accounts and it was a mistake to okay them.  But I haven't been bothered much there.  Not yet.

I've since had a few bots hit me up on Discord.  2 of them I picked up pretty easy because they were vague and saying things like: "your story" instead of using titles.  I'd respond with something like: "Oh, are you talking about The Brat Pack?"  And they'd say "Yeah, that's the one" and go on about how they liked the characters and stuff.  I'd be like:  "Weird.  I never wrote anything called The Brat Pack."

However, there was one particular bot that was more advanced.  It knew what the name of one of my stories, plus the characters and plot.  It also took its time before responding, and the little typing icon showing for an appropriate time length for the response.  It also did small talk.  An early flag was that its punctuation was immaculate, none of the slop you expect with casual conversation (nothing so blatant as em-dash, but all around professional looking).  I tried to get it to show its hand by asking if it was a writer or artist (cue up the "I think this story should be a comic" spiel), but it said it was just a reader.  The red flag was that it fell into the thing that AI does, where it responds and then asks questions intended for engagement farming.  Whoever was wrangling it must have realized they lost me because it suddenly started responding like a real person and tried the comic angle.

Not even the spam bots care enough about me. So... heh. Sometimes it's good to be ignored.
