Tablet stuff

by
So the other day I was working on a Cunny Page and the barrel button of the pen on my Wacom tablet (PTK-640) fell off.  I snapped it back in, but it wouldn't work right, doing all sorts of random things.  I pulled the whole thing apart and some itty bitty metal components fell off the circuit board.  I have no clue where they go, but I assume they were part of the switches for the barrel button that fell apart and were rolling around in there closing random circuits and making everything wonky.  So I left them out and put the whole thing back together to see what happens.  Good news is the pen tip and eraser tips still work, but the barrel button is completely fragged.  I can get by without that feature if I have to, but considering it's starting to fall to pieces, I should really look into a replacement.  Now I could buy a new pen from Wacom, but that's 80 to 100 bucks, and I'll be using a 15-year-old out-of-production tablet that I never fell in love with in the first place with a new pen that might not happily sync with it.  For that kind of scratch, I could buy a whole new setup from a cheaper company.

There are some SUPER cheap graphics tablets on Temu, but I don't know what you can expect for 20 bucks.  I suppose I could always buy the one closest to what I want with the highest stars and hope for the best.

Anybody got any suggestions on a halfway good tablet for under 100? Something with a similar workspace (9x6 inch) that I'm used to? I don't need anything with a screen or anything.

I wouldn't go to Temu for a tablet. I'd get a HUION from Amazon. Basically the poor man's Wacom. They have a wide variety available for all budgets, even some really rad Cintiq-style screen tablets for only a few hundred bucks

I've seen HUION when I was looking at what was available, but I never heard of them (although I haven't been looking at what's what for quite a while) and I was leery because they were so cheap.  Some of the cheap stuff all look similar to each other and I suspect a lot of them are made by the same company with different nameplates.

And being compared to Wacom doesn't exactly inspire me because I've been fighting with this one for so long.  The only reason I ever used it was I paid a lot of money for the damn thing and had to justify its existence.  Truth be told, it probably played a part in my lack of drawing over the years because I didn't like it.

I've had a HUION HS610 tablet personally and can say they're pretty damn nice especially for the price, to be honest. I have some higher-skilled/trained artist friends who own their higher end models as well (replacing wacoms and cintiqs) and they've had nothing but positive experiences as well. They're the most popular tablets on Amazon for good reason, both affordable and reasonably good quality construction.

So please don't let me invoking the name of an incredibly popular and overpriced brand in comparison sow doubt in your mind.

I have one sitting in a cart and I'm contemplating if I should pull the trigger on it.  Hard to win debates with your wallet sometimes.

For the price I figured I've spent more for a meal at a restaurant, so I just got it.
