The collapse of the Japanese yen may soon force us to leave Fanbox. When we launched our page, the $75 Diamond tier (2 charas) was already a discount, since a normal commission costs $60 per character (plus bonuses like exclusive pics and even the chance of winning a second pic)
With the yen’s decline—the only currency Fanbox allows—I’ve had to raise prices twice, but Fanbox caps tiers at 10,000 yen. In theory that’s about $64, but after fees and PayPal’s exchange rate, we receive barely $55 per request.
Combined with the fact that our membership is now half of what it was in 2020, this model has become unsustainable.
I do understand the shifting trends, but to minimize the impact, I’m currently looking into alternative platforms—ones that won’t eat away over half of our revenue—so we can continue creating content.
