Fuck Microshit

by
Microshit is forcing planned obsolescence by forcing people to buy overpriced PC components that will not work with older operating systems, making Win11 and Win12 subscription based and loaded with Spyware, ads, forced AI usage and having to be logged in at all times. Businesses and consumers alike are dumping Microshit in favor of Linux, IOS,and other systems. Forcing people to buy new PC components is also going to hurt not just Microshit but all tech giants.

The more I am learning about what Microshit and tech giants are doing is stopping me from upgrading  to a new windows PC anytime soon and go to Linux, IOS, Chrome book or something else.

No company or business is too big to due.

Absolutely, and this is coming from someone whose been using it for 30 years!

I work in cyber security and I just couldn't justify using Windows 11 anymore after the debacle with Recall, and they still have it in the OS.

I switched to Nobara Linux for gaming and as a daily driver. It's rock solid from my experience and plays 95% of games as well or better than windows 11 ever did, but the one caveat is that I didn't know it used its own updater script vs mainline Fedora the first time. Using "sudo dnf update" pulls from Fedora and screws up the Nobara custom kernel and bricks it. Use the built in updater or "sudo nobara-sync cli" command instead if you try Nobara for gaming.

If gaming isn't your preference, you can't go wrong with Linux Mint.

And from what I am learning the exodus to other operating systems is gaining traction and I really hope that Microshit goes away.

I know I need to build a new PC, but with the amount of spyware that Win11 and Win12 has and going to subscription based OS, I may just go with the OS that I have a love/hate relationship due to having some experience with Ubuntu and Red Hat. Going to have to bone up learning most flavors of Linux, which can go a ways in getting some use of my IT degree with the black bot (got my Bachelors degree in IT security from ITT Tech)

Nice! NJIT myself.

But yeah, Linux has come a LONG way since then and its a lot more user friendly than it used to be. A lot of the forks now like Nobara, Linux Mint, and Zorin OS give a near Windows 7 / XP like experience. Other than some higher level tasks, I don't even use the terminal much. An average user would see zero need of it and just use things like the Discover App store or Flatpaks.

Yeah, but the sad thing is that Office 365 is the best  and most versatile word software to date

But how much of that versatility do you actually USE?

Everything I do in Microsoft Office, I can do with LibreOffice, with one exception: MS Access allows one database to link to tables in another database, so you could have one database holding the names of personnel in the department, and a second database tracking Engineering Projects that links to the names database to track the "Who asked for this project" data. Libre Office Base requires all tables to be part of the database, so you can export a table from one database and import in into another, but if the parent database is updated, you need to manually export and import-overwrite the table if you want the second database to be current.

Can you convert or save a document in al known formats?  Add images (something that I know Libre Office, Open Office can't do). I know it sounds crazy, but I have been using MS Word for over 30+ years and can navigate it without having to spend time trying to find something I need.

Yes, including formats that MS Word doesn't recognize.

You can add images in Libre Office Writer. You might be thinking of an early build. As a bonus, adding an image in Libre Office does NOT immediately screw up the document formatting like MS Word does.

After 30+ years, you have probably already found everything you need to use. My style of learning new software is more of a 'compare and contrast' style, learning multiple programs of the same type (Quatro, Lotus, and Excel for example) and focusing on what features are common to all (the 'core functions') and what each does differently (the 'options'). Because of that, I can pick up a new program quickly, learning the core functions, and then expanding to learn the details as required.

Glad I don't use Windows anymore for music production since roughly over 6 years ago.  Bloatware, easily susceptible to viruses and such (requiring antivirus software), the OS would become slower over time, and Windows simply left a bad impression on me over the course of the 17-18 years I used it.

I'm sad to see that it's still a bit rubbish and just getting worse.  I truly miss FL Studio.

a bit of good news is that linux isnt as new user hostile as it used to be. yes first time users will have to initially set up in cmd but if they've used a mac then its fairly similar but with the versatility of windows, if not greater. best part is that they dont have to buy a weird new computer to start using linux. you could install it tomorrow on your existing computer after backing up all your files and changing the os

Last time I used Linux was in 2010 at ITT Tech working on my IT security degree, Linux and I have a bitter love/hate relationship.

I am in the process of designing my gaming tower using a HAF Coolermaster 932 I got a couple of years ago https://www.newegg.com/cooler-master-atx-full-tower-haf...
