So just had a mass reporting of my gallery in regards to me using stock background or things from shows (Helluva Boss backgrounds) resulting in more of stuff being locked and hidden away.
So honestly at this point, FA is probably the best place to keep up with what I do. I hate doing backgrounds and really don't like spending time on them (they're boring) and placing plain color is just ugh.
I don't feel like going back and redoing/altering 50+ images to make them acceptable. It's not a lot of work to change a background, but I don't have the time for that and I don't get paid to do this, so whatever lol
So check FA for missing things, and my uploading here will probably be very scarce. Figured I'd give a heads up.
EDIT: Seems this is a site wide change and not a targeted thing. Sorta makes it worse. So yeah, follow my FA, as if I upload here, the background needs to be fully done by me, which doesnt happen often, especially when I want the character to match the media they came from (using an accurate Helluva Boss background to make my drawn Helluva character look like they popped from the show)
Seems this was done in regards to 3D and now a heavy "for you by you" rule is in play, even with stock backgrounds and backgrounds from the media. So it hit me too, yaaaay.

tbh, FA is more restrictive about some content, i'd say is more a handful users snooping around and causing trouble cause they want to play the "morality police" card, and feel ya, would not be surprised it can be linked to the cub content being taken down, emboldened them to keep going
i'll be honest, i miss it, but i also understand the why, but at the end of the day, fiction is just that, fiction, no one is actually getting harmed, i'd worry more about people who can't/don't want to differeciate fiction from reality that someone drooling over a drawing, even if some can sometimes be on the uncomfortable, if not creepy side of comments

Maybe even u18chan, but the upload speeds there are kinda wonky with the site crashing when trying to upload (requiring either a re-fresh or for you to try again with the upload). It may or may not be because of a particular person hating on you or your art, but could also have something to do with certain well-known artists posing journals about ai that actually brought backgrounds to the attention of the mods here.
As they got into the usual heated debate on ai with both sides tending to be particularly rude in their wording, (I usually stay out of which for that reason, they don't use fact but emotion on both sides) it was brought up the fact that they use backgrounds that aren't their own (even though they never denied it) so since they made a big deal about it/it was brought to the attention of mods, in order to be fair to everyone/enforce all policies they're probably now going to be cracking down on all backgrounds as well.

Honestly, I dislike a lot of the "artists circles" in any fandom. So many times it feels like an attitude of "If you arent doing it our way, it's wrong. Hiss!" And its why I tend to never even try and engage with other artist in the Fandom. Never really have unless I commissioned them since 90% of the time, they don't bother replying to their own comments.

And then then when they suggest they're being "targeted" because "IB only supports ai and ai lovers" (not true in the slightest, they're trying to be fair, even if some policies need work, they don't seem to be particularly hostile to any opinions but mostly trying their best, at least from what I've seen directly. When they aren't it appears to be a problem on personal level, not problems with the site itself), then the mods have no choice but to go after everyone equally using anything other than their own art, even if it has nothing to do with the art itself.
And yes, the whole "never meet your hero's" is definitely unfortunately something I've seen come true entirely too often with well-known artists. Not "all" by far, but enough that engaging with them is like playing the lottery...in other words, most of the time you're just a "loser" to them :P

Was good for a while, despite some questionable choices I made in content, but now IB is making a stupid ruling. Ai? Cool. Using pre-made materials for backgrounds or 3D renders. NO. BAD! lol

No I mean this is kinda the argument for making generic ai backgrounds using loras. One thing ai sorta is ok at and at this point butt hurt artists and websites should just come to terms with it already. Ai is like any other tool. Can I shade just using the burn tool in Photoshop? Yes! Is it smart? No! Can I fix a cars thermostat with just a hammer? Most times yes! Should I? Fuck no! Similarly I think ai has a divine perpose. For companionship and small tasks. But it's not a good idea to use for everything. But right now we're going through that stupid phase aka I don't want blacks in white schools, I down want cars on the roads Cas it will scare horses, I don't want light bulbs because they are the devils works, I don't want gays to get married cas I might catch the gay I won't want ai Cas its making it hard to price gouge.... Fan art, even pornography, is fully covered by fair use. Commissions with copyrighted characters are a grey area that nobody's tried to sue over yet, so they're considered fine until further notice.
But directly lifting pieces of artwork, even if it's only backgrounds is a big legal no-no and could get the artist AND the site into very expensive trouble.

Sucks, but I can see IB's point about avoiding potential lawsuits over it. Because even if they win that, it'd a.) cost a shitload of money and b.) shine a spotlight on a site that's best kept low-profile on account of allowing cub art (which could get all kinds of restrictions forced on the site based on local legality thanks to certain recent dumbass laws enacted in the UK, US and elsewhere).
I'm fairly certain that what happened here is that they got a lawyer letter from some copyright holder and their legal counsel (which I'd hope a site like IB has, because if they don't that's just begging for a disaster) told them to make extra certain to comply with the full letter of the law.

From what I followed of this situation, this isn't actually a new rule (although it did get moved to a different subheading fairly recently); just one that flew under the radar of the 'report every little thing'-types until a recent, initially unrelated controversy caused by another user whose work included a lot of re-used Disney film backgrounds behind their own drawing.
Supposedly the concern is that because the backgrounds are lifted wholesale, there's a legal concern that they aren't adequately transformative in the fair use sense. IB's usually a bit too far on the better safe than sorry side about these things in service of the grey areas they consider super important, but they've always seemed to be doing genuine due diligence... so it makes me wonder if FA allowing wholly ripped backgrounds isn't a small legal risk on their part.
