Bluesky banning NSFW

Now, I don't know is this 100% true BUT there's this post going on Tumblr saying that Bluesky is changing their guidelines, banning all NSFW from their site.

https://www.tumblr.com/nei-ning/795784910019477504?sour...

So if you and your friends have Bluesky account, spread the word forward just in case so that this won't come as a surprise to other users. The more knows about this, the better! Send feedback to Bluesky about this as well!

Now, I don't create NSFW stuff anymore (at least so much) but when I do, I post on Pixiv. That seems to be only safe place currently, thanks for being owned by Japan. Pillowfort is safe, for now, as well but how long? Don't know since they can keep themselves away from NSFW ban as long as there's users who will donate money (because it, apparently. is HELL EXPENSIVE for websites to allow adult content). When / if those users are gone, I'm pretty sure Pillowfort will ban NSFW as well JUST to get money from big and rich corporations to support their site.

I'm SICK of it how money is so fucking important in these days, pretty much saying what people can and can't do or have. Money isn't everything in life or in the world and it's sickening how so many have seem to forget this...

Sorry for the rant part. I'm just so darn pissed.

The ban language is pretty stupid., because apparently you need to showcase that the NON EXISTING, IMAGINARY CHARACTERS.. have "CONSENTED".

Which is pretty unreal.

I'm sure they're trying to avoid getting too granular on their ban, if it happens. And with AI getting as good as it is for realism/photorealism, it'll be ... challenging to just look at something made with a highly realistic model and say, "Yep, that's totally AI so it's totally allowed, whereas that over there is obviously not AI so it's totally not allowed." It's ridiculous, it's childish, it's yet another potential casualty of the Terrified Mothers, Intl. fucking with society and forcing us all to live as if we're 7 years old. I'm so fucking sick of hyper-Puritanism, especially in the 21 century!

Tell me about it! This is what happens when people start to mix / confuse reality into fiction. You can't harm fictional characters for real but somehow, this still, harms real kids in puritanians eyes. Like... how? As a parent it's THEIR JOB to educate their kids and make them see difference between reality and fiction, what is harmful for real and what is not. And, for God's sake, there usually IS an option to block / hide NSFW stuff so what's the big deal?

I tell you: Control and money. Nothing else. None of these who wants NSFW ban honestly cares for kids.

That is the point. As you said its all about censorship and control.
And it is pretty obvious considering the same group of clowns always says about "liberty and free of speech" but only when its convenient for them.

they are not banning all nsfw, they are banning certain things like depictions of non con but the problem is that the AI they use to determine what is consensual porn and not conceptual porn cannot tell the difference and the rule itself is super vague about wether this includes kinks like bdsm or s&m and other such kinks. its stupid and its kind of a slap in the face of the communities who helped build bluesky as a platform and they do not seem interested in actually listening to user feedback

Aaahh, I didn't know they use AI for observation (but then again, who doesn't use that ass sucking AI in these days?). I just say that won't be accurate or good, at all. And why limit people having kinks since, at least in arts, it honestly won't hurt anyone for real.

I'm sick of it how puritanians online are all about: "Protect the children!" (when it all is just to be able to control others and earn money) but where are these people when, in some countries, (not gonna name specific ones) families sell or give their underage daughters (youngest at the age of 5) to their uncles or cousins as a wife. It's been YEARS but I saw one document about this on TV. Family sold their 9 year old daughter to her 50-something year old uncle as a wife. She got pregnant to him in very young age as well. So... shouldn't THESE KIDS be more protected than kids online who's parents' responsibility is to keep them for accessing porn while being underage?

I think it should be a law in all countries that no smart phone to anyone who's under 18. Heck, I got my very first phone (no smart phone since they didn't exist back then) when I was way past my 20's! :'D

I'm not especially dubious that it costs more to host adult content. Not just because corporations will be happy to charge a tax for literally nothing other than they can, but also because we all pay for bandwidth used. Even if it's through an ISP, they're paying per GB transmitted, and they pass that fee on to us. Adult content will naturally get more clicks, and if it's video, it'll be some version of HD to really drive people to subscribe via JFF/OF/Pat/etc. So if 5,000 people view a simple text post, that's 5MB (assuming the post is 1K of text data). Those same 5,000 people view a 50MB video file, and suddenly you're into 25GB of bandwidth used. A massive jump in cost. And that would need to be offset somehow so companies could stay serving that data. (This is why I truly feel that bandwidth should be free. This game of every byte costing is really old, and is absolutely "so last century".)

Excuse me for not totally understanding your super fancy and knowledgeable writing (which I honestly mean!) but... By bandwidth you mean some kind of internet use limitation? I used to have one in my first phone as a late teen - which wasn't even a smart phone back in early 2000's. My limit use for a month was 20€, all calls and texts included. When that 20€ was full, I had to wait for a month to change and it go back to zero so that I could use my phone again. I was able to answer calls and receive messages, but couldn't call or text myself. Except calls to 112 (our emergency number).

But yeah, if you mean this kind of limitation, it's hell old and should be thrown away! Luckily Finland did that decades ago! Of course, I assume, there's still operators who offer this to kids' phones if parents so want but I think everyone, pretty much, use limitless internet in Finland in these days. Using internet cost us no GBs etc. It all is charged already in your monthly bills. Example: Let's say my phone bill is 35€ / month. I can use as much internet with it as I want (sharing phone's internet via Hotspot with my laptop since that's my only internet source) with no extra costs, no bandwidth getting full etc. It all is already included in that 35€. I can call and text as much I want as well, free of charge so to say.

Sorry if I got out of track or something! I'm not good at stuff like this :'D

It's totally fine. If you're not an IT Geek, it likely means little to nothing. Bandwidth is properly, how much data can travel through any given system at any given time. So, for instance, if your home WiFI network is rated at 2 Gbps that means that its bandwidth is a maximum of 2 gigbits per second. (Giga is a fancy collection term meaning 1 billion. Mega is one million. Kilo is one thousand.) A bit is a single 1/0 being sent/received. A byte is 8 of those. So, if you had a 1GBps (notice the capitalization) that means that you have a network with 1 billion bytes per second maximum.

Now yet another pain in the ass about computerese is that bandwidth can also refer to the amount of data flowing through any one network whether it's a wired or wireless one. So, taking the examples above, your WiFI home network might be 1GBps, which means that you have a maximum of 1 billion bytes per second. Your phone and TV use amount to 45 MBps meaning you're using 45 million bytes per second of bandwidth for your daily use. (A good rule of thumb for that is this is to remember that when discussing bits per second, just divide the overall number by 8 to get the bytes per second. It's no longer fully reliable, but it's at least a better way to think about data use since a bit is a single 1/0, but a byte is a character (a-z, A-Z, 0-9, etc.).)

Now that same 'math' applies to the ISP and the Internet backbone provider. (The backbone providers are the companies/organizations that actually provide the Internet connectivity. The ISP, the Internet Service Provider, runs their network from your home/devices onto the Internet itself.) The backbone providers charge the ISPs a per Gb fee for their service. The ISPs used to charge the same kind of fee to their users, but then they switched to a generic price with generic costs to the consumers because until very recently (5-10 years now), most people used only a little bit the total allocation per household. Smartphones have been a thing for a long while now, sure. And wireless networks have been the same. But it's the streaming that has really kicked the ISPs into panic mode because 'live' video like that requires a LOT of bandwidth per item. And that's only the worst offender. MMOs, with their constant data stream to and from the game company servers also eats up bandwidth because it's literally constantly sending ghods know what data to and from. So now, suddenly, several smaller ISPs can no longer offer 'unlimited' data to their customers because usage has skyrocketed.

And that's why I said that the entire bullshit billing system of per byte (well, technically GB) as a fee structure is ridiculous. Especially today when there are SO MANY router options available that are so much cheaper and do so much more. The only reason we're still floundering with this garbage is greed and fear, and it's time to overcome both of those things.

Just for others' interest and potentially likes, reposts, and replies, I made a post that expresses my ... distaste for this plan and that should get to the various teams at Bluesky.
