It's Kamikazetime for Yaminabe Aries - Tail Tale! Review #10

When I started doing those reviews, my main goal was to spread the word about the anime or cartoons, or whatever it is that I'm talking about here. If they make you wanna check what I'm talking about, and that means a single review made someone become a fan of something like the anime of Blue Dragon, then my time spent working on this kind of thing on top of writing my stories was already worth it!

That doesn't mean that I thought I would have written ten of those reviews, haha. But, hey, that's nice! I still have a lot of stuff I wanna work with, so I'm not planning on stopping anytime soon. It would make it a lot easier if I could find a way to use those to also help fund my commissions, since any minute I'm working on them is a minute I'm not working on my stories. Maybe I can find a way to make some money out of those one day, like accepting payment to review something in particular? Eh, we see. If you guys have suggestions about this matter, I'm listening!

It would also help if you guys spread the word around them! If you like something I've reviewed and think that showing it to someone you want to introduce to an anime, cartoon, or other media will encourage them to watch or play it, then please do so! Or, if you think they should stay far away from that something and my review explains why...oh, geez, that cartoon of Castlevania...xP!

So, I'm proud of doing ten reviews by now, really hope you guys enjoyed reading them! If you do, please show them to other people too~

This does make me wonder...it's great that I'm now about to work on my number ten review, but what should it be about? I do have some stuff in mind that I think would be worth this number, but since I haven't reviewed a game yet, I thought it would be a good time to start doing it. And there is one game with furry that I know I had to start with. Which, in the end, makes it perfect to be the tenth of my reviews.

Do you guys know about the visual novel game called Tail Tale?

Well, technically, the full name is "Yaminabe Aries ~Asu e no Chousenjou~". That is a collection of three visual novel games, made by Circus!

About Circus, from wiki: "Circus is a Japanese visual novel studio known for creating adult-oriented bishōjo games. In addition to the normal Circus brand name, there are other brand divisions, including Circus Northern, Circus Fetish, Circus Metal, and Sanctuary. Circus has also been involved in collaboration projects, creating titles such as True Tears, a collaboration with Broccoli, GameCrab, and illustrator Rei Izumi published under the brand La'cryma, and Sora o Tobu, Mittsu no Hōhō., an adult-oriented collaboration with Broccoli released under the same brand name."

Those guys have been around for over 25 years since their first game, Aries, which was in 2000. Ever since then, they have released over 50 games. From what I can tell, most, if not all, of them are visual novels, but most of them also never got released in English. And lately, they are pulling an Atlus (who's milking Persona for years now...) and milking what seems to be their most famous series, Da Capo. They're only working on that series now, and it's a shame because I wish we lived in the timeline they went all out with Tail Tale. Why?

Because Tail Tale, as far as anyone can tell, is not only the first kemono visual novel game ever released but also the first hentai one! Many people think that honor belongs to Morenatsu. Maybe Morenatsu is the first gay hentai one, but I'm not sure if it counts since that game was technically never finished and released. It is its own can of worms; better leave it for another time. But Tail Tale? It was released as Circus's second game, all the way back in 2000! This means if they wanted, they could have kept working on that route and working with kemono visual novels! As far as I can tell, Tail Tale is the only one of their games that is like that, though.

And I'm not sure about Aries. It's also their first hentai game, but it's hard to find info or play the game without a translation. This also means that if they had wanted, we could have had even more hentai kemono games, such as Tail Tale, if they had followed this route. Imagine how many games like Tail Tale we could have gotten since we're talking from over 25 years ago!

Unfortunately, this isn't the timeline we live in. For whatever reason, Tail Tale was the first and last time they did a game like that. Maybe they didn't have much faith in that project, which is quite apparent when you know that it wasn't even released on its own.

Yaminabe Aries Asu e no Chōsenjō is a collection of three different visual novel games. One of them is Tail Tale. The other two are Katomai and Sana. According to VNDB, Katomai doesn't have any hentai, and both are related to Aries, Circus's very first game. This means that Tail Tale doesn't have any connection to them as far as we know for sure, since we can't play the game without them being translated to be sure of that. That does seem to be the case, though! Which brings the question: why release Tail Tale, a game that has nothing to do with those other two, together in this collection?

The only explanation that I think makes sense is that it was something they did as an experiment, and to them, it didn't work out. Maybe the collection didn't sell that well despite being three games in there. I really wish we knew more details about the behind-the-scenes stuff of those games, but we don't. Would love it if Matt McMuscles did a "What Happened" to that game so we can finally have that kind of info, but we know furry hentai games aren't Matt's thing lol.

So, all we can do is just play the game and enjoy it for what it is. And I sure enjoyed it!

In Tail Tale, you play as Rick Zack, an anthro cat that lives in a floating continent with other anthro cats. We don't really see the entire continent, as the entire game takes place in two villages, Bastok and Zapat, and Rick lives with his brother in Bastok. It will be easier to discuss the game in more detail after we know our characters, so...

- RICK ZACK: Our main character! A fisherman who lives in Bastok with his brother, Napp. Since his brother is sick, he has to take care of him, and since he isn't suited for physical labor, unlike his friends, he lives a calm life as a fisherman. He even has his favorite spot, which is away from the village, and nobody goes there but himself.

Despite that, he has a big secret known only to his brother. While neither of them has memories of him, their mother told them about their father. Officially, it seems that he was arrested by the Holy Order's military police and executed. Holy Order is like the Church of this world, and they also act as the police.

Since his father dealt with research about airplanes, that was considered heresy. But Rick believes that the official version is a lie. He had found out his father's secret study!

In there, he found out that his father, being a scholar and thanks to his research, discovered that there is another civilization flourishing somewhere in the sky, and to reach it, he was building an airplane. Since the secret has records about the completion of his airplane dated until the day before his flight, Rick is sure that he flew his airplane to that other world, and the Order covered it up.

Thanks to that, he had the dream to also fly to another world like his father had done. And that is possibly since in the secret study, there is an unfinished airplane with blueprints and stuff. He is working to finish it in time as he needs to take advantage of the so-called Stormrise, when a big gush of wind comes for a period of time, to be able to fly with the airplane with its help. The game's plot takes place in the year of the Stormrise, but if Rick fails, he will have to wait another 15 years to try again.

Despite his brother being against it, and sometimes this subject even makes them argue, he's very stubborn and doesn't want to give up on his dream. Doesn't help that Rick isn't a religious person at all, not believing the scriptures or even caring about the things the Holy Order says, though maybe part of it is because his father was "killed" by the Holy Order. So he is doing all he can to finish the airplane while also taking care of his sick brother, enjoying the calm life of a fisherman. That's until he had his fateful encounter with Ran.

- NAPP ZACK:  Rick’s little brother.  Because he has been ill ever since he was a child, he never got out of the house much, and indeed, we never see him outside of their home in the game. He has a weak heart, so he spends long periods lying down on his bed, reading books.

While Rick has this romantic, nice view of their father, that isn't shared by Napp at all. For him, their father was very selfish since he left on the airplane, abandoning the entire family, leaving their mother to raise them on her own. That's why they tend to fight when talking about their father and Rick’s dream, since not only does Napp think that way, but airplanes are forbidden by the Order.

There’s no special treatment for Napp’s disease, but it is not something that would kill him either, if it were ignored. The doctor said there is nothing to worry about as long as he doesn’t exert himself. However, he is inevitably struck by coughing fits from time to time, but they are quite easily suppressed by medicine. That’s why Rick sometimes goes to pick medicinal herbs to help with those fits, right next to the spot he goes fishing.

Since he's always at home and on his bed, he reads a lot of books, and he's also very smart and knowledgeable, which is why Rick wants his help with calculations and info to finish the airplane. Despite always refusing to do it, given his feelings about their Father, he and Rick are very close.

- RAN TERN: All I can say without spoiling anything about her is that this cute cat girl, and also the ONLY female character in the game, is Rick's romantic interest. Or not, depending on your choices, haha.

- ZAIL: Rick's childhood friend, a few years older than him. When they were little, he was like a big brother to him.  Even though Zail was born into a wealthy family, he hung out with poor kids like Rick, as if it didn’t matter. But when he grew up, he moved to Midel so he could attend the academy, and they couldn’t see each other much anymore. Then he left Midel to live in the capital. He met Rick again at the start of the game and updated him on his life; now he had become an officer of the Holy Order of the branch in Midel. He did that because he wants to protect the peace in their homeland, though according to Rick, the exam to become an officer is quite tough.

Rick thinks Zail has a strong sense of justice and a keen mind, so he’s perfect for that job. But Zail is also deeply religious and used to warn him about the blasphemy of flying through the sky to go to the outside world, even since they were kids. He’s now living in Midel but will stay in Bastok for a couple of days at the time of the game.

Zail is the character we see the most, not counting our main trio (Rick, Napp, and Ran).

-BERNAR: The richest cat around the villages who lives in Zapat, there are rumors he even funds the Holy Order. As the antagonist of the game, at least for one of the game's plots (will elaborate on what I mean by that later), he has a connection with Ran, who considers him a cold and heartless man, and it's all I can say without giving spoilers!

-MAG: He's one of Rick's friends who we see in the bar scene, the short brown one. Like the stripped tails, we barely see them, so we don't know much about them or Tiegel.

-TIEGEL: The other Rick friend we see in the bar. He is the tall blue cat! Judging by the scene, it seems Tiegel is more perverted of the two and may have a short temper, based on both the scene and what Rick thinks about him.

Stripped tails: Aside from Bernar, while many are mentioned (kinda...), we only see two of them with visuals and all, and that's the two guys in the bar scene. One is the yellow, big, and muscled cat, and the other is the slender black one wearing an eyepatch. Aside from the fact that they work for Bernar, we know nothing about them.

Sadly, as far as I can tell, it's lost media, but I can say for sure that the first time people in the West even heard of this game was from a forum thread on the site AGNPH, a hentai site for Pokémon. Someone made a thread about that game, posting the hentai scenes, and everyone was just blown away by this unknown game that had those amazing hentai scenes with furry characters! Remember, this was back in the beginning of the 2000s; there wasn't a game like this back then at all! The scenes, by themselves, were good despite being censored, and Rick and Ran also being cute furry cats helped a lot to get people interested in looking for more information about that game.

From there, it was a matter of time for the good folks of WildCritters to form a translation group and work to translate what would be their first and sadly only game they ever translated.

WildCritters was an amazing site, kinda like e621 but focused more on Japanese art, and I still miss the community. A shame it died like that. But it's thanks to the folks of that site that we can still enjoy Tail Tale since Circus, too busy milking Da Capo, never released it in English officially. So...thanks a lot to

Tail Tale follows two "plots" at the same time, though it also kinda alternates between them. You know how many visual novel games have you making choices that put you, as the MC, on a specific route? There's a bit of that here, but not really. It's all a single route, but each chapter focuses either on the "Airplane stuff," so a chapter that is more focused on Rick's dream, or on the "Ran stuff," which is a chapter focused on anything related to Ran. The game has only three choices, and they determine the ending you will get.

I will go into more detail about this in the spoiler section, but the game obviously has a "canon good" ending, and the other ending is what I hesitate to call bad; let's call it the "non-canonical ending" to avoid spoilers. You need to make the "right" choices for the good ending; if you choose wrong, then you will see a few differences in two of the chapters and lose a couple of others, which also have one of the hentai scenes. This means that if you just want to see the scenes, you are forced to get the good ending at least once, even if you feel satisfied with the "non-canonical ending".

Since Rick is the MC, we always see the plot from his PoV, in a "slice of life" way, and since this is a short visual novel, we don't see many interactions between other characters or even with Rick and others that aren't Ran or his brother. The game can be finished in between two and three hours, I think, depending on your speed in reading visual novels and, uh...for how long you stop to enjoy the hentai scenes xP! For that reason, I won't say anything about the plot and stuff here, but I will give my impression on some of that stuff, including the ending, in the spoiler section, though.

While the writing is quite solid, it's not the best visual novel out there or anything, and it does have some "issues" which I will talk about in the spoiler section since I'm not talking here about the writing itself but stuff from the plot. But the writing is good, and the same goes for the writing of the hentai scenes, though I think they could be more detailed, given we only have two of those scenes...technically. And anyway, it's the art that has gotten everyone's attention ever since then, and probably is the reason why you would want to check the game out. Not that I blame ya, since the artist who drew all of the art for this game is Ikuta Takanon!

She's an amazing kemono artist who even worked on Aries and other games aside from Tail Tale! Ever since then, she has been a big name in the kemono artist community, and that hasn't changed as she is still active to this very day! You can check her stuff in:

If you want to see a cute yet short straight love story, especially with anthro cat people, Tail Tale is the game for ya! And if you wanna know how to play the game today, I have good news~
My buddy

made a comment in e621 about this, which I will copy here:

"That link is dead, but the translation was re-uploaded here:
https://depositfiles.com/files/ghdgpjsz1

When you get the RAR file, Windows' built-in extract tool can't open it (says it doesn't support RAR4 files). To fix that, you need to use 7-Zip (if you don't have 7-Zip, you can get it here: https://7-zip.org/ ).
Right-click the RAR file -> show more options -> 7-Zip -> extract files. Once the folder is extracted, there's a readme file with setup instructions. However, the JP text and locale installation instructions are a little outdated, so here are updated instructions (using Windows 11): --- Initial setup (to get the text to display properly)

Get the most recent version of Locale Emulator here: https://github.com/xupefei/Locale-Emulator/releases/tag... (you want the zip file). Extract it, then run LEInstaller.exe. Install for the current user or all users, whichever you prefer.
Click the Windows icon in your desktop toolbar -> go to Settings -> Time & Language -> Language & Region. Under "preferred languages", click "add a language", search for Japanese, and then add it. Windows will start downloading files to display Japanese text correctly."

Thanks a lot to him for allowing us to easily play the game today! It's also thanks to Swinging that we got this:

https://web.archive.org/web/20090819003026/http://tailt...

There was a wiki that the Wildcritters team used to discuss the game and the translation, and it had the whole script. Sadly, it's now down...but Swinging found an Internet Archive capture of the wiki from 2009, which has at least part of their stuff. I recommend you take a look only after finishing the game, since it does have translations of the script, which means big spoilers in there!!

And I also gotta thank a couple of YouTubers who uploaded their Let's Play of the game to their channels!

DanieluPlays did a let's play of the, hmm..." not good" ending:
https://www.youtube.com/@DanieluPlays/videos

Beep Bop Gaming has a good ending:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cw2ua63CW8E&list=PL...

Sadly, they don't have the hentai scenes uploaded since you know... YouTube. If you are someone who can upload the scenes somewhere or already did so, please let me know so I can link you here, and thank you for your service~

Speaking about the hentai scenes...both of them are only between Rick and Ran. This is a short game, so there's no time to show scenes between other characters. And that's a shame, but also curious since for a hentai game, we only have a single female character lol. Usually, you have the protagonist having routes with other characters, but it's not the case here at all! So, despite having many male cat characters, keep in mind this is a STRAIGHT hentai visual novel game, and where you only see action between Rick and Ran. Did I wish we had more options, maybe even gay ones like we got with games like Morenatsu? Of course, but that's not what they were going for.

If you wanna play the game and know how to choose the endings, that's easy. You are presented with three choices during the game, and you need to choose the "right" one to be on the good ending path. That means you can choose the right choices two times, then make a save for the last one, and just load after seeing the other ending. As for the choices, without giving spoilers:

1 - When you meet Ran for the first time, talk to her.

2- When having to choose whether to go get Napp's herbs or not, go get them (if you don't, you will lose the first and also the second hentai scene btw lol)

3 - Convince Napp.

Aside from locking you in the good or "bad" endings, there's not much difference if you choose one or the other option, except the second time you gotta choose because if you choose not to go get Napp's herbs, not only will you make him suffer (you monster!) but you will lose the first hentai scene! And if you choose this, that means you won't be on the good ending path, which means you won't see the second hentai scene either lol. That's why there's no reason not to choose the option for the good ending in the first and second choices, then save the game and do what I said before, so you see both endings.

Now I will talk about things like the endings, my issues with the plot of the game, and stuff I like. All of that will contain spoilers! If you want to avoid them and still want to read the ending of the review, including my rating of the furry characters and that stuff, then please scroll down to the “KEMONO SCALE JUDGEMENT” section!

MAJOR SPOILERS FOR THE GAME AND ENDINGS

-A lot of the things I will talk about here certainly would be different if the game were bigger, so keep that in mind. Given that I'm sure many of those things would probably be different for the better, especially the endings, if the game were made with a "normal length" in mind for a visual novel game, I wish they had done that.

-Given that Midel is this big city and all, and we barely see it, it would be nice to know if there's more to it. Like, what technology do they have that the guys that live in villages like Bastok don't have access to? We aren't even sure how the people who live there relate to the stripped and fluffy tail feud plotline. It's quite crazy when you think about it; there's no way that the people in Midel can stay impartial about that "war" between the two villages. Either more guys with fluffy tails or with striped tails live in that city, and that means the city would naturally side more with one of the villagers. But the only time we see trouble related to it is in the bar, and only between cats from the two villages.

-Maybe I also feel that way because I think that conflict between the two villages was kinda of just there, a lot more could have been done with it. As it is, we don't even know if cats like Ran are that rare or not! And that conflict isn't even part of the "main conflict" of the game, either in the "Airplane stuff" or in the "Ran stuff". While that is used as one reason for Rick to want to fly in that airplane, it's not like it's even the main reason; he would still do it even if there was no conflict between the villages at all. And Bernar would still be rich and mean to Ran regardless of their tails.

-Speaking of Rick, damn, he can be such a jerk! Not only was he fine with the idea of abandoning his SICK BROTHER, who had no other family left to fulfill his own dream, but he was also fine with watching his two friends just being beaten up without doing anything to help. There's a big difference, and not liking to fight and feel the reason for the conflict between the villages is being stupid and watching your friends being beaten, and doing nothing about it. And no, it makes no sense that he is "changing" his mind about leaving when Napp gets worse near the end of the game. Does that mean he would just leave without any issue if Napp had stayed the same then, abandoning him? He had no way of knowing his brother wouldn't get worse later after he left! And this gets worse when he knows how Nappy feels about their father because until Zail told them the truth, they always thought he had managed to fly away to that other world.

-Isn't it weird that Rick never goes to visit Zail or something, given how close they were back then, and with Zail now living in Midel? At least Zail would certainly feel the need to stay more in touch, given that he does something forbidden and tells Rick and Napp the truth, going into their house to do that. And yet, they never talked or made plans together before that happened after they met at the cliff,  Zail never visited him before the day he went to tell him the truth... that was weird. As other things, I wonder if we were going to have more chapters or parts with Zail, but they were scrapped due to the short length of the game.

-The mating season plot device is perfect for a hentai game like this, but for a hentai game, it's crazy that we only had it in one chapter. And only see one hentai scene in it! There was a lot of potential here, even for yaoi scenes, even if they didn't need to make them canon. Remember, it's a hentai game with a single female character, so it's not like yaoi stuff would be out of place. Besides, at least with Napp, I think there was the potential for it. Unless we are supposed to believe that somehow Napp's body was immune to the mating season caused by the three moons? And yeah, he was sick and all, but it would be very easy to explain that he can have sex at least to some degree as long as he had access to his medicine. Heck, we KNOW he can have sex just fine thanks to one of the endings, so...it's veeeeeery weird how a hentai game never mentions Napp's situation during the mating season at all. But yeah, for a hentai game, I feel the idea was probably the most wasted thing about it. And even if we ignore the situation with Napp, based on the little we see of Midel at that time, it would be easy to imagine that things like threesomes or orgies could be common between friends. It could be at least the excuse game needed to make Rick have a straight or gay threesome. Honestly, since we're talking about a hentai visual novel game that technically only has one route (Rick x Ran), this plot device could be used to make an extra "fanservice" scenario to show more sex between other characters.

-Ran's backstory is fine and all, but as I mentioned before, we don't know how rare children between people from Bastok and Zapat village are. If Ran is the first one of her kind, then there's no way that guys from Bastok like Rick wouldn't have heard of her before. And if there are so many others that someone like Ran isn't considered rare enough to get that fame, then is that feud between the two villages as big as Rick seems to make it out to be? That kinda of thing makes me wonder if the original idea was to make Rick and Napp be kids of villagers from Bastok and Zapat like Ran, so each of them would have different tails, and this would also help to "connect" Rick to Ran more in this aspect. Plus, it would give this feud plotline more importance to the plot of the game itself.

-Still speaking about Ran, there are two things in Tail Tale that I consider so...I'm not sure if I can say bad, but I would say it's so weird that it could even be considered a plot hole. And one of them is about her and her situation with Bernar. Based on what I see of their interactions later, there's no way in hell that guy would leave Ran so free as we see her at the start of the game. I mean, despite seeing her as his sex slave, he's fine with not only her leaving the village at least sometimes, but during the mating season too?! Yeah, no way. For a sex slave, she had too much freedom; it just doesn't make sense. And speaking of which, based on the trouble Rick had to sneak in AND out of Bernar's manor, how in the heck did Ran escape from his manor by herself all the way to randomly meet Rick when she asks him to hide her after she hurt Bernar? And that was after she left during the mating season? Come on.

-The other thing was Rick's plan to get themselves out of Bernar's mansion and Zapat. We see that he followed the information from a book he read and scouted the place out, so he knew about the big bird nests hanging from the cliff. You know who else should know about those bird nests that are so sturdy they can save someone's life if they fall from that cliff? The people who live in Zapat! Not to mention the cliff is right by his manor, so even if he didn't know about that, you would think some of his men, especially for security reasons, would be familiar with such stuff. It's crazy not only that despite the total darkness they had to jump in, and yet they landed on - we have to assume there are multiple bird nests since if it's just one this is even crazier...- right where they needed and not a single one of Bernar's men knew about those nests. Heck, it's even weird how quickly Bernar was to give up. Based on what we know about him, he would want to see their bodies to make sure they were dead. Not to don't even bother to send his men to search the area under the cliff to see if they can find something. No way that Rick planned for them to give up so easily in the event they had to jump from there, even if he was somehow 100% sure he and Ran wouldn't miss the bird nest!

-The endings of the game are what really make me believe that either this game was made short as it is with at least one sequel in mind for the future, or the game was supposed to have a lot more content, but in the end, they cut it all to fit into that Yaminabe Aries anthology. Geez, usually I'm not against "open endings" but that depends on what they show and what they don't, and I can't say I'm a big fan of them here. Even the good ending just leaves too much open! As it is, regardless of the ending you got, we don't even know if they managed to reach the other world safely. Not to mention, you know, how that world is like, what they will do there, etc.

And this is even worse with the other ending, aka the Napp ending! I think having a whole other route for Napp x Ran is a great idea with lots of potential, but...yeah, not like this. Not only did we never get a single hentai scene of them in a hentai game, but it was so rushed that we don't even know how they became a couple! It just suddenly happens, which is why I can't blame Rick for not noticing at all until he gets home and sees them sleeping together. And not only this, but it sucks that neither of them tells him about it until Napp is dead. That really makes it all so weird, and it's one of the many things that a "full Napp route" could have explored if they had committed to it. The possible hentai scenes in such a route would already make it interesting, but even without that, it would have been nice to see more than a single full route in a visual novel game. Shame that, for whatever reason, they only did this rushed ending for this "second route".

KEMONO SCALE JUDGEMENT

Now that we put that out of the way...it's KAMIKAZETIME!!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=giyexlQP_-E

Tail Tale isn't the best visual novel game that I played, hentai or otherwise. There are issues with the plot, though most of them probably wouldn't exist if the game had a bigger plot, with more routes and that sort of thing.

However, it deserves massive bonus points for being the first furry hentai visual novel game ever! Even if the writing isn't that detailed and the game is too short, it's still solid and a fun way to pass an afternoon or something. Can recommend it for fans of visual novel games without any issue.

But...with the amazing art of Ikuta Takamon? HOLY SHIT.

Come on, even if the game didn't have any hentai in it, the art of the game is just fantastic! All of the characters, even the striped felines which we barely see, have amazing designs, and any of those characters is so good-looking that all of them could be the main character of a game! All of the characters are cats, which already makes this game a must-play for any cat lover! And non-cat lovers will probably want to stay for the plot...or maybe the hentai scenes xP.

Those are the main reasons why this game eventually got a fan-translation after all, people wanted to know the context for them, who those characters are, what the game was about...everything! And all because of the sex scenes showing up on the internet, which Ikuta did a very good job with as well. Unfortunately, the scenes are all censored in-game. I hope one day we can at least get a remaster or something with the scenes uncensored...not to mention a sequel. But that's up to Circus, and who knows if they will remember Tail Tale exists. Given how popular furry games are today, though, especially those ones with hentai, I'm sure there's a good market for something like a remaster or a sequel to it, and I hope they see that one day!

For a furry hentai game, it's weird we only have hentai with Rick and Ran and no other character, but it is what it is. And since all of them are cats with amazing designs and the game is all about...technically two of them, it's very easy to give this game a...*turns around and points dramatically at the movie* A FIVE OUT OF FIVE OF LOF IN THE KAMIKAZE SCALE!!!

The best furry character this time is...that really will depend on your opinion. Maybe it's Rick whom we see most of the time? Or Napp, the intellectual type? Or maybe you wish we knew at least more about the striped cats? But to me, I will go with Zail...let's just say I wish he were the main character instead of Rick~

The "kemono in the refrigerator" this time is...can mention any of the characters aside from Rick, his brother, or Ran, but I think it's a tie between the only two striped cats we saw. I mean, unlike Mag and Tiegel, we don't even know their names!!

Aaaand that’s it for this one! Hope you guys enjoyed reading this review. Please don't hesitate to leave your comments and opinions about it, especially if you happen to have already watched a Let's Play of it or already played the game, or maybe wanna check it out thanks to this review xD. I want to leave those journals as a place where people can discuss the respective things being reviewed here!

Great review. Hearing about Yanimabe Aries/Tail Tale again after all of these years was a real treat. I'm going to need to find the time to play the game at some point.

Question; do you think Tail Tale was at all inspired by Little Tail Bronx? LTB has a very similar premise of kemono living on floating islands, and there's a similar theme of animosity between two groups (Dogs and Cats, in LTB's case). Tail Concerto would've dropped two years before Yanimabe Aries did, so the timeline could line up for it being a possible source of inspiration.

Thank you! And you should, it was fun revisiting it for this review~

Huh, now you got me wondering about it! This reminds me, a few years ago, I tried to interview the writer of the game, but sadly, they weren't interested in doing an interview, so they only answered one question:

"“How did Tail Tail start? Where did you get the idea?”

"“TailTale” was an idea proposed within the team that I then fleshed out in detail. It originated from members who enjoy kemono, and since I also like kemono, I jumped on board with the project.
While I truly enjoy discussing the work with fans, I am no longer an employee of CIRCUS, the development company, so it's difficult for me to answer many more individual questions at this point.
I was very happy to be able to talk about a work that has been out for over 20 years. Thank you."

So...maybe those members were big fans of Tail Concerto! Who knows, maybe some of them even had connections with some folks who worked in that game to even think of making a visual novel with only kemono characters!
