About Commissions

What's a normal amount of time people expect commissions to get them done? I'm trying to figure out how to art faster but I'm still pretty slow. Like is a couple days okay? A week? Shorter? Longer?

It largely depends on the scope of what was asked, price point, detail, and familiarity with the artist.I think most people expect a turn around or at least solid progress within the month. I think the biggest key no matter what is transparency and open communication.

Agreed. This is where most artists drop the ball. Most commissioners are pretty understanding as long as you reach out and inform of delays or just give updates. Communicating on expected delivery dates is important, and you have to know your own production process to assess how long a particular piece might take you, more or less.

What Poe Said. I would say that given your typical level of details andepending on how busy you usually are, I'd find it normal to see a couple days to a week at each step (i.e. sketch/lines/colors), especially if some misundertanding need to be ironed out at some point, which is somewhat common.

As Poe says, establishing expectations (including for communications!) early and being honest if it turns out you need more time is imo more important than figuring out what turnover you want to advertize...

Cool. Guess I need to time how long I normally take then.

I'm going with Poe on this.

Personally I try to work in batches and keep my queue current. Am also active on telegram, so anyone requesting a WIP can get a WIP.

Nothing you probably havnt heard already. but as long as you keep communication and know the scope of what you’re asked to draw it’ll likely help you gauge what’s an appropriate amount time. (Eg. Time range/days to draw headshots, bodies backgrounds etc.) thinking about your comfort level plays a part as well IMO. Hope this helps a little.

Side note: I didn’t know you do commissions. I love it.
