What an awful six days it was… FUGLY (Fucking Ugly) is the best word to describe it. So what happened?
I own an LG Stylo 6, by my opinion, one of the best Dumb Phones out there! Dumb Phone? It’s Not A Smart Phone Because It Is Not Intelligent! It’s just a PC that fits in your hand! Nothing more. It is just a Dumb Device!
Enough of that rant… When you have a delicate piece of technology in your hands, when it falls, it can make various sounds. “Clink!” and “Clank” are the ones you want to hear, because the casing might get scuffed up but it will still work. But it you hear “Thud!” – that’s it. Game over! Screen, logic board, other internals will be broken beyond repair. That’s what happened to me. I won’t say how or who’s fault it is, but my Dumb Phone slipped out of my hand and landed flat on the screen, making that “THUD!” sound. Screen broken to nothing but 75% rainbow and 25% Visible Screen. Still operational to some extent so the logic board was still OK.
What to do? New Phone? The cheapest my carrier has is a $350 unit and that was with their online discounted coupon. Used Phone? That might be viable but I would have to check my option. So Ebay I went. Found: NOS (New Old Stock) and SIB (Still In Box) LG Stylo 6 from my carrier! LG is no longer selling Dumb Phones in the USA due to low sales and losing a court case to Samsung (That Folding Screen Dumb Phone was originally LG’s and they have a patent in Japan, but Samsung registered a patent in the US which the court case was about.) so LG left the US market. Cost of this NOS/SIB LG Stylo 6? With shipping, taxes and other things - $200. Expected delivery? Ten (10) days. So I ordered it.
It came in faster than 10 days. It came in about 5 days. Got it the other day and since I still have the old Data transfer software for the Stylo 6 when I first got it in June 2020, connecting the two phones together and activating the data transfer only took a couple hours to transfer and verify. Then the last step was to register the phone online and swap the SIMM card out of the old phone into the new one.
Got my old phone back! Well, not really, this phone is white and my original phone is pink (Rose – it’s what came out the box, not that I chose that color! LOL!) Swapped out the leather case I have for it and I’m back.
Maybe when I can get some cash together and if I can find a new screen for it, I might try fixing the old phone and have a burner phone from it. But replacement screen are so expensive. Maybe a dead phone with a good screen from ebay? Might be an idea. But right now I’m out $200, which for someone on a fixed income, is a lot of money to deal with.
Now to live a life with the Digital Zombies of New York.
And for those who want to know – yes it updated with the newer Android OS when I got it out the box and turned it on. That took forever to update! Now, I wish I could get a new LG Stylo 7 or 8 that will run in the US market.
