Here are my terms of services for my commissions. Feel free to ask if you have any questions =:3
- Payment must be rendered prior to beginning the project. Paypal only. - Do not send payment in advance. Wait for me to send the invoice via Paypal first. - No artwork is allow to be utilized for anything related to AI or any kind of machine learning technology. - The artist retains the right to display and promote the artwork. - The client cannot edit, or profit from the artwork. - Commercial work are subject to additional terms. - If I cannot complete the project, I will issue a refund. - Communication is conducted via DM here or on discord.
the point - Payment must be rendered prior to beginning the project. Paypal only. requires a lot of trust in you though. there are lately fake artists which scam others (not saying that you do that). i would change that into "until a WiP is shown" like something which didnt took much time from you like a scetch for example or i know artists like aogami or seany which schedule extra a stream for the clients and draw it there.
PayPal is aswell lately EXTREMELY risky since they go along with visa and mastercard, make sure you have areplacement '-'. you should tell your clients that they write a normal reason into the money transfer. leaving it empty leads just into a trace investigation from PayPal, expecially when money comes in from multible clients without any reason stated. i mean a normal reason like "freelancer work for website disign" for example. not directly saying "for a comission" ... xD.
but in anycase, for a lot of peoples would be the 1st point a no go. (unless they trust you and didnt ran who knows ho often into scammers) i for example had aswell an artist which "trie´d" to run away with my money. i had to run after him for about 7 months. he didnt had a long schedule either (like only 2 pictures, me and someone else) needing 7 months for 2 pictures? ...
TL;DR: i wouldnt pay until i seen atleast a WiP xD.

I see. I understand the first point require a lot of trust. What you are suggesting is actually how I was working before. Showing a sketch before the people make the payment. The problem is that now with the automatic images generator they refer to as AI, there is the trend of ''fake customers'' that ask artist for sketch and then use that to generate the image themselves after the artist solve the composition and pose problem for them. I know It is tricky, but unfortunately I don't see any good middle ground anymore trust wise at the moment. I hope that the fact I have other completed client work on my profile should be enough as a proof that I do intend to do the work.
Regarding Paypal, that's why I work with invoices (I did forgot to specify it here, so I'll edit that and add it. Thanks). I use the term ''digital illustration'' in the article description. Which I think is clear enough for them, but doesn't give too much info they may not like. It's also true and accurate. Because ''website design'' isn't what I do at all and that type of deceiving description just let me open to lot of problem and easy refund from people even if I finished the work cause... well, I in fact didn't provide a website design. I also agree that Paypal isn't the more popular choice because of the current controversy and some people already had problem with it, so I am open to other suggestions. Judging from journal from other artist that run into that problem however, there doesn't seem to have any other one that work nearly as well.
Thanks for your comment btw. It's always helpful to know people opinions on the matter for me to improve =:3

but ... your ToS is - No artwork is allow to be utilized for anything related to AI or any kind of machine learning technology. so ... you have that already covered. if someone jumps off after you shown him/her a WiP is that a suspicious thing and you just blacklist them. Ai isnt that good either to be honest. they would never get it finished how they want it ^^'

Well, my TOS will be effective for decent and respectful peoples. I am talking in the case of scammers that were planning that from the beginning, so they most likely won't care one bit about my TOS. Let's be honest, even if it's clear I don't agree to it, I know very well all my art has already been stolen by AI furry models. They probably scan and steal from IB artist every day.
Now I don't think someone that would want to quit after the sketch necessarily had bad intention. They may have other reasons. But that's pretty rare, at least from my experience.
I just think it's easier as artist to take the burden of working to earn people trust with the work we deliver than the other way around. Cause I should produce more finished work as time go by to prove I am willing to do so.
