Kren Ha:  The Haunted Halls of Eveningstar

by
Chapter 5:
A door in the chamber that they had rested in leads to what appears to be a throne room:  The throne which is damaged, sat upon a dais.  There was a damaged end table made of ebony which was missing a leg and was leaning against a wall.  However it was a large painting that grabbed the interest of Hareton as soon as he went into the chamber:  It depicted a bunch of human knights in a battle against elves, but the painting was animated, showing the battle taking place.  Hareton took his wand of dimunition and tried to shrink the painting down.  The wand had no effect, the painting appeared to be warded against such an attack.

Raya meantime was examining a pair of doors that were laying on the floor, having been ripped from their hinges and lead out into the hallway that they had been exploring the day before.  The doors featured sculptures depicting knights slaying a dragon.  A glint of gold caught her eye and she knelt down and picked up a golden key.

Kren Ha pondered the throne and the crumbled chest below it and then looked at the doors that flanked the either side of the dais.  "Which door would you chose?" she asked.

"The right," Hareton said finally taking his eyes off of the painting.

They opened the door and headed down the darkened passage.  Most of the halls here ended at dead ends or to empty chambers.  Finally they pushed open a door and gazed upon a fantastic sight:  The skeleton of a giant, sprawled upon a stone table that had cracked in the middle and collapsed.  Jutting from the giant's rib cage was a spear which had a gentle glow to it.

Hareton was drawn to the weapon, though he wasn't overly interested in it:  It was rather plain, a steel blade joined to a shaft of wood.  The shaft had the word "Shimmering" carved upon it.  "This spear is used to slay giants," he pronounced.

Kren Ha smirked, "What was your first clue?"

They looked about the room and Raya was the first to stumble upon the first coins.  They decided to dig into the rubble to see what else they could find.  They managed to find 12 coin in total, while Hareton seemed interested in something else.

The digging was interrupted however as a group of Kobolds ambushed the party and attacked them, wielding small daggers.  Three Kobolds attacked Kren Ha, three Kobolds attacked Raya and two attacked Hareton.  Raya was stabbed and slashed several times by the Kobolds that were upon her, while Hareton was faring no better.

Raya feeling that she might soon die from the wounds inflicted, intoned a spell of healing upon herself and rolled out of the way of the Kobolds and their lethal knives, booting one of them as she did so and causing it to drop its weapon.

Hareton managed to claw one of his Kobold's to death and Kren Ha, clubbed two of them to death with her flind-bars.  Seeing that three of their number had fallen and that one was weaponless, the rest of the Kobolds broke off and fled from the chamber.

They took a moment to breathe and Kren Ha cast a healing on her friend, "You poor thing Hareton."

"I'll live," the Calygraunt said, "Now help me with this body buried under the table."

Beneath the table was found the skeleton of a human in a tatted cloak and pair of boots.  The boots were magical according to Hareton and were placed into his backpack.  Finally Hareton pulled the spear out of the giant's skeletal frame, not willing to leave behind magical items.
