Separate yourself from the Core Web. AKA The main social medias and websites everyone uses. So sites and Apps like Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Bluesky (maybe), TikTok, Google, and anything AI related
Part 1: Video Watching/ Hosting
Part 1:1: Lets start with YouTube. Theres many of YouTube Alternatives out there. Peertube is one of them that's decentralized Peertube You have to host your own instance. Others that I recommend is Odysse, BitView (Retro YouTube like Platform), Glomble
Part 1:2: Host your own via your own website. This YouTuber I watched shows how you can literally host your own Video Hosting site and its not expensive at all and not as hard as people think it is. Heres the Video . I know the concern about this is that There's no way to watch all your favorite channels and people who create but its not that hard which leads me to Part 2
Part 2: Image and Personal Websites
Part 2:1: MAKE YOUR OWN WEBSITE! I know it seems like an impossible task but its not. I use Neocities to make my site and for the actually HTML I used a website maker from 2002 to give it that old school website feel. Its easy to pull the code from the application and paste it into Neocities with some tweaks since HTML 5 is slightly different from the HTML 3 code I used but it works just fine.
Part 2:2: I know now you're wondering how do you keep up with friend's post and videos. Well that's easy.... RSS Readers. This Reddit feed shows a bunch of the best Readers you can get. some are free others are not but all can be used in the same way. Basically replace social media algorithm feeds with feeds of the people you wanna watch and follow.
Part 2:3: Image Hosting. I know trying to find a place to host your images and videos can be hard. some servers have weird rules and stuff on what you can and cant host. For those who want more artistic freedom I suggest self hosting at home with a server rack. It doesnt have to be expensive. You can easily get a small rack and honestly if you're only posting images 5-10tb is all you need. If you're hosting videos then a bit more at 1080p can work, but if you cant be bothered then theres plenty of Image hosting sites and server sites that are free or dont cost too much. This SpaceHey Forum Post talks about the free options and referring to that earlier video he brings up how to host from different services that are inexpensive.
Part 3: Alternative Social Media/ Forums
Part 3:1: The one I use personally the most of Mastodon and SpaceHey. Mastodon is a decentralized Social Media site where you can host your own instance. You probably have heard of it and still dont understand it that much. well theres plenty of videos talking about how it works. The other one, SpaceHey is an Oldschool Social Media designed to look and function like MySpace from 2003.
Part: 3:2: GET OFF OF REDDIT! I know its like the big main Forum site but its not decentralize. The admins there will quickly shut you down if they dont like what you post. Find alternatives or create one yourself. Heres a few Forums that people like to use and some I use
Part 3:3: Now I know you want to know how do you discover new people and sites. Well this is where Web Rings come in. Theres plenty of Web Rings and many interconnects with each other and you can orbit these rings to find new websites and people to follow. This is a big BIG reason why I started disconnecting from the Core web and actually surfing the net again like we used to in the 90s and early 2000s.
Sidenote: This Neocities Blog explains how to host your own website for video hosting which can also apply to Hosting for Images too.
Also Sidenote: This is Betanet aka Internet 2.0 This video talks about the project and how you can contribute to make the New Net. A Internet free from Corporate reach, Government eyes and Payment Processors.
Odysee is a crypto/blockchain focused site that works on peer to peer distribution, like a torrent. Its also 'focused on free speech", which is a dog whistle for it being a haven for hate speech, conspiracy theories, and right-wing horseshit.

I'm proud of having my own website I created from scratch where I upload all the stuff I uploaded here. But I can say it is worth it to have an own place rather than just accounts on ther sites. It is dangourous to get kicked out from sites because of very minor reasons. Important is to communicate your own site or accounts you are on so people can find you if they want to.
