I'm not optimistic about this applying to anything related to pornography.

Seems like a step in the right direction... possibly

What an insane timeline we live in...

Of course the goal here clearly isn't about protecting NSFW content but far right elements since (progressive?) banks have tried to impede those in the past.

But there aren't exceptions mentioned either, so maybe it will apply?

Well they definitely won't come out and outright say its to protect legal, NSFW expressions of speech haha. And they are rightfully concerned about political censorship, at home and abroad, as that is what the Online Safety Act is very much already being abused for.
EU government's direction is very concerning and must be stopped. And honestly, NSFW is probably the least important aspect to this censorship right now, what with the EU's censorious ambitions ballooning all the way to going after private messaging and encryption.
We can hope that actions such as this will snowball into also protecting NSFW art.

For the moment I am in full support of the EUs actions. We have to prevent at almost all cost that the right wing gains the ability to manipulate people like it did in the USA.
Their approach on 18+ verification (that is currently in the make/proposed) is also solid. Way more solid than what the UK came up with. It is truly anonymous and open source. I'd probably dare to use it even on Inkbunny.
Please don't use the word "censoring" inflationary like that. Otherwise it will lose even the rest of its meaning :/

Apologies, i keep lumping the UK and the EU together and failing to catch myself. In all instances, excluding the private messaging part i suppose, where i said "EU" i meant "UK" lol. My American brain is making me look dumb.

Im was not informed on the EU's own 18+ verification strategy, but it is good that it does not involve any personal information. Since 18+ verification, on the technical side, doesn't require such to begin with.

...Is it me or does this feel like a Monkey's Paw wish?

I'm asking considering what is going on at the moment.
