Landlord bullshit update!

Like to thank you all again for the suggestions and information in the last journal. Long story short, i contacted the law offices, told them what was up and today they contacted me back that everything was taken cared of. i still need to contact the courthouse to get the ok in writing but its done.

However we have a new issue. they are trying to charge me for additional fees this months and saying that our rent is 50$ more then it actually is on our contract. i still have the original rent lease agreement with amount. not to mention i have records on the digital ap showing that our rent is still only 1200 minus fees. so yeah. its on like donky kong tomorrow.

I'm willing to bet they're trying to force you out so they can get a new tenant at a higher lease. It's a typical maneuver for the scummy type of landlords.

absolutely. i was talking to one of the neighbors whos been here as long as us, and she told me that they're charging 800$ more for our unit for new people coming in. shes been telling the new renters and of coarse, those new people are quit upset. Management really doesnt like her talking to other tenants. shes made it pretty much her job to let others know since she has nothing else to really do. shes so awesome :3

I spoke to the managers 2 days ago and they said they would honor our old rate if we re-sign. we don't really have a choice cause we dont have the funds to go elsewhere. but Ive been recording our meetings and i still have all the old paperwork. I'm going to try and hold her to what she said.

Smart. Keep everything documented in order to keep them from being slimeballs.

I had a feeling this might be the case, but had no proof so I did not mention it on the previous journal.  It has become a common tactic because there are usually laws to prevent insane markups to existing tenants, even when there is a lease renewal.  It might be a good idea to check the laws in your area what is the legal limits that can be done for rental increases and make sure management has to follow those laws.  I've seen and heard of way too many scummy tactics where the renters get screwed over where the rental management will change the rental agreements and merely copy/paste the tenant's signatures.  If you do resign, take photos of the agreements and demand to have an exact signed copy for your own records.  This will save you a lot of headaches if they try anything.

The fact that someone there is blowing the whistle for new possible tenants is awesome though.  Good on your neighbor to ensure the newbies are not getting screwed over.

Fuck.  Sorry to hear that!  Having to fight for the LETTER OF THE CONTRACT sounds ridiculous, glad that the courts were able to enforce the contract in your favor.
