YCH survey: Everyone in or Auction style?

Hi! Local art bunny here =:3

Still debating about if I want to give a try to do YCH type of commission. I saw 2 different ways people usually do them and I just want to take the pulse to see what people around usually prefer:

Option 1: The ''everyone in'' approach (probably have a real name, but I usually call it that way). It's basically the format where and artist post the YCH for a set price and everyone that want it can order it.

Option 2: Auction. So I set a base price (maybe an auto-buy too) for the YCH and a certain delay, then everyone bid and the highest bidder get the YCH.

Let me know what you think. I can see pros and cons for both, but I am really curious to see everyone point of view on this. I see this journal as a place for open discussion, but keep it nice and fuzzy =:3

I tend to prefer Option 1. Mostly because it can be a cheaper and more easily acceable thing to get for people that aren't necessarily rich at that moment lol. More people buying it means you could potentially make more money than doing just one and setting the max/AB amount. Plus more oppurtunities for other people to eventually post it to their galleries to potentially draw more people to your work in general.

Only real downside for you potentially is having to get stuck drawing the same-ish pose over and over (just adjusted to the each persons character) a handful of times for that ych. So if you feel like that might bore you or become tedious it might be better to go with Option 2.

Thanks for your input. That's pretty much how I see it as well. I don't think redoing the same pose over and over would be a problem as I am really not that popular. My worry would more be on the other end. That no one is interested more than having to do them too much =XD

That's also fair! Yea it can be disheartening if/when nobody happens to be interested im sure, but I guess that's kind of the life of a artist in general. Especially when it comes to ychs or adopts

You could experiment with both and see how it goes. Option 1 offers simplicity for you and the buyer. It also gives you the option of allowing more than one buyer, or you can still limit the pic to just one buyer. And even if you do allow more than one you can still limit how many are allowed to buy that particular YCH.

Bidding requires you to keep track of more things (especially if you do it on more than one website). But can potentially give you more money for a single picture if the auction happens to be particularly popular.

That's one way to see it. Could always limit it to one still. But then it doesn't sound fair cause how to choose who get it if there are more than one people interested when I post it? If I was to put a limit, maybe it could be a timed one. Like, everyone interested can get one but then I close it after a week maybe.

If I was to do biding, I will probably limit it to one site only or else it really become pure chaos =XD

Option 1 (also called a "Multi-Slot YCH") is more palatable because it mitigates exclusivity / FOMO / sniping. I used to hate the idea of YCHs and would never get one (when I could) but these started to get introduced and I liked them a lot more. Understandably, the mileage varies per artist as some artist's I've talked to don't like to re-render the same pose over and over.

Thanks for the info. I guess that name make sense =:3

My big worry with the biding option is the FOMO effect which I hate. Snipping is also annoying and can cause frustration. Especially since everyone is in a different time zone so that's hard to manage. Only advantage I see compare to the multi-slot is the idea of having exclusivity, which can make them more interesting to some people. I know being ''part of a set'' of images isn't everyone cup of tea.

I honestly think that offering both types lets you auction one off and also lets you have the mass YCHs that many people can pick also making it so that no one gets that left out feeling. You could even alternate the types that you do. One time offer a mass YCH and then the time next an auction, and then back to a mass one, for example.

The only problem that I can see with multiple character (2-3 characters) or huge YCHs (ones with 4+ characters), especially when it comes to nude and sex stuff, is that some people just don't really want to be paired with the person who gets the other slot. Sometimes that's just unavoidable, when you're dealing with YCHs. So I would suggest that any multi slot YCH's should probably be either SFW or at least no sexual situations. Innocent nudity would be fine in my opinion. But as far as anything that is NSFW depicting sexual situations, I would limit it to people who want to get all of the slots to avoid that kind of issue.

Though, this may not be an issue for you anyway, since I'm not even sure if you really do NSFW stuff in the first place. I can say I'd definitely love to get an NSFW one if you ever do decide to do NSFW stuff though! hahaha

That could be an idea. However, I don't want to confuse people. I feel like offering one or the other here and there may make things a bit more complicated. At least by sticking to one, people know what to expect.

I do usually stay sfw yeah. Or sfw-ish as I like to call (nothing is actually show, but teasing is allow kind of idea =:3). A bit unfortunate cause it sure would be nice drawing your character in some naughty situation. I do have a weak spot for cute boys with glasses. Maybe we can find some middle ground.

Ah yeah I can understand what you mean here. Maybe stick to mostly doing the mass availability YCHs then and only occasionally offering an auction type one every once in a while, like maybe once every three months or something like that?
