As many know, I've been a nearly lifelong fan of the Electric Light Orchestra, aka ELO, going back to when "Roll Over Beethoven" broke into the charts, in early 1973. (This is expressed by my avatar, a modified version of ELO's classic UFO jukebox logo.)
ELO were supposed to have their final concert this past weekend, at London's Hyde Park, but had to be cancelled at the last moment, due to health concerns, regarding founder and frontman Jeff Lynne, who first broke one of his hands, and now has what is being referred to as a "systemic infection". Being that he's 77, he was advised not to perform ever again by his doctors. This is not promising.
, has said he was just thinking about remixing a song from ELO's first album (which was named "No Answer" in the US, but the rest of the world knows it as their self titled first album), called "Mr. Radio". I thought it was a good idea, as a nod to ELO's and Jeff Lynne's legacies spanning 6 decades, so he finished it and posted it today:
Despite my disputes with Mr. Lynne, and how he treated the contributions of bandmates Kelly Groucutt', Louis Clarke, Mik Kaminski, Hugh McDowell, Mike D'Albecerque and Bev Bevan, I do ask for prayers and good vibes for Mr. Lynne's recovery, and a peaceful retirement.
Currently, the only member of ELO still alive and active is Mik Kaminski, who has also been part of Kelly Groucutt's OrKestra, ELO Part II, and currently The Orchestra, all offshoots of ELO over the years.
