Talk about lousy timing

Hello from Anthrocon! Earlier tonight I received an update from the VA Hospital of my blood results. They found one gene tested positive for hereditary renal cancer, hopefully it's benign. When I went to grab dinner all the blood drained from my face and I was shaking like a leaf. I alerted my parents and Bill Kisner, who I'll meet tomorrow.

I'm hoping it's not as serious as it sounds. All the more reason I'm glad I saw my dermatologist as soon as I did. Early prevention is key. Hope tomorrow is better.

Well, the report only showed that you have the potential, not that you have active tumors. While the news is shocking, it's actually good for the timing. You've just intercepted solid intel about the potential enemy activity, so you and the doctors can focus tests in that area and catch signs of active tumors while they are just starting and are easy to treat.

I just learned a couple nights ago, that an old friend (one I've known for 51 years) is riddled with cancer (and spreading), his heart failing, and showing signs of a potential stroke/aneurysm. He's only 2 years older than I.

He is right now trying to finish up on his life, so he can say goodbye, when it all hits. He's also one of the very few around here to offer condolences for the loss of my mother.

You have time. My friend doesn't. Knowing you have this genetic marker gives you a chance against kidney cancer, and have another 25-30 years of a happy, productive life. Be thankful, and live!

I'm terribly sorry to hear this. Here's hoping it's benign and now that the doctors are focused on it, they probably can do something about it. A lot has advanced medically so I hope things will go well for you. Best of luck.
