I'm going to miss you, Roarey.

I haven't been keeping up with Roarey much since he didn't follow me to Signal like many others when trolls got my account on Telegram banned. Still, I had him on Steam and I kept meaning to ask him "hey, how have you been doing?". Seems I'll never get the chance though. According to a screenshot of his Telegram group he was found passed away in his bed this morning.

Much of the fandom has panned him in recent years for some unpopular takes, but to me he's a historical figure. He's been drawing artwork since I joined the fandom in that delightfully cute style of his, more than 20 years ago. He's a big part of the reason why I had my Tails-inspired sexual awakening as a teen and wound up loving cute boys. It's through his group that I met my wonderful hyena, my reason for being.

It can be hard for many to see passed the grumpy exterior of his later years with this consumerist attitude that people have towards others being so pervasive (with everyone seen as disposable unless they believe Current Thing™) but I'm grateful that I got to know the beautful soul beneath all that. He brought a lot of lovely people together and inspired many to get into art and furry.

I'm going to miss him dearly. I know it's cliche but please reach out to those people you've been meaning to catch up with. Let them know that they're awesome. They could be gone tomorrow for all we know.

Indeed his passing is a loss for all. I admittedly could not look past that grumpy exterior but I wanted him a happy and healthy life. Alas just because I couldn't see his beauty beneath it all doesn't mean there was none to behold. His cartoony art is most certainly telling of a beauty beholden within. We may not be able to change his outcome but we can change how we treat those suffering from the loss, with either compassion or malice. To that I say, no I beg, please let us ease each others suffering, set aside our differences, and allow ourselves to grieve.
