The paradox of artistic confidence

by
Hello dreamers.

I can be a bit judgmental especially when I'm in a bad mood or stressed (as I often am for various reasons). So maybe I'm being a bit harsh, but I immediately get turned away when I see an artist flatter or disparage their own work. Like just straight up refer to something they post as good or bad or trash or whatever.

Some people speak quite loosely or what they mean is a bit ambiguous so sometimes they might be talking about their muse and not their skill. But still, it's a good idea to avoid it if only to avoid sending the wrong message to a "community" that is already so confused and negative.

It's really hard to get the right mindset for the optimum art process, especially if you have a condition to compound it and/or a poor support network or a bunch of antagonists. But the rules of thumb are:
1. Always present everything you make as if you're happy to share it, even if you're not
2. Never apologize for your quality, it is always better than nothing and better than AI
3. Always be humble, it is a rare virtue
4. Never demand yourself to do the best work you've ever done, because you probably won't
5. Always be OK with "bad art", yours and everyone else's
