Hypes and the lack of those these days

Greetings to another pointless "I noticed something and I would like to talk about it" journal.

So no porn here. Nothing to see.

Now I was thinking about "hypes". Which to me means, that a majority of people is into one and the same thing. Something that suddenly appeared and everyone had at least an oppinion about it and was excited about it.

I am currently 32 years old. Born in 1993.
And I want to talk about those "hypes" I feelt in my life. Cause unfortunately I was never in time for a hype and part of a big fandom, or that everyone talked about it and I was able to be part of it.

So I want to tell a few things I still noticed (here in germany)
The first "hype" for a series I noticed might have been the series "Lost". Like every adult was talking about it. And it was once in a week I was not supposed to interrupt mom and dad when it aired in the evening.
Of course I was to small to actualy care about this boring adult show. And even now, watching it, I was... actualy quite bored after a few episodes..

Then there where the anime hypes in germany. We had like only one tv channel that showed anime. And those who where there was known to basicly every german child. naruto, Pokemon, Dragonball, Inu Yascha, One piece, Ranma. And I know from a time before I watched animes, that Sailormoon and the superkickers where a thing.
A real hype, I would say, only naruto managed here in germany. To bad.. I was a One piece kid. And I still am! So that was a hype that passed me. And it's a shame, because I like Naruto by now. Would have loved to be in the ages where it was actually exciting to wait for the new episode and talk about it in school or so.
And of course Harry potter. THAT was something you where unable to miss never mind where you looked. Books, toys, art.. Everywhere.

After those "hypes" I would say then the next ones have been the first big Netflixxx things. Game of Thrones in the beginning, and Wikings where the things everyone talked about. I had no netflix. I still don't have it. So that passed me to.

And the last hype I noticed was maybe "the mandalorian".

Now after mentioning all those, I would say, that today it is very hard to actually create a hype for a series anymore. And I think it's because the TV where everyone watched the same stuff at the same time... It's mostly gone by now. Or at least declining in a big speed.
And all these streaming services make it hard to be excited of a series, because they are... bad? I tried to watch Andor.. But I have a window in my room. my room was to good bright to see anything on the screen. (a fact most "modern" movies suffer from). But next to that they are not fun to watch anymore.

Is it just me or are you also missing the moments where like everyone is excited for one thing?

I guess the only hope in that regard might be GTA6 in a year.

Everyone is getting hyped out because the actually of engaging in the gleaming new turns sour quickly when they inject unnecessary political agenda into the "hype".

It's jading people.

to be fair, I think I just understood half of it. But I think I got the point. And yeah.. I watched "Kenobi". And... it became boring.
I also heard that the lord of the rings series sucked hard too because of "the message".

And I think inanimes it's that everyone can watch what they want when they want. It's not that every kid has to see the same series and episodes together because there are no options. I would say that having all these options makes it hard to focus all on ONE thing and therefor it lacks the "hypeness". Sure there where some big things recently. But neither managed to become a real massive thing.

The most 'hype' I have experienced recently has usually been around furry circles, with furry/furry-adjacent properties. Zootopia, and Hazbin Hotel/Helluva Boss definitely stirred up some stuff, and Sonic obviously grabbed a bit, but I was pre-disposed to that already.

EPIC: The Musical was also a recent big-ish thing around YouTube

it's hard to be hyped because of what the medium in general is now, Hyped up for a new show or movie? Too bad, the most recent political fad will kill it dead. Hyped for a new game? Too bad, the game will release a glitchy broken mess and will only get better with updates that will make the game too big for your hard drive to handle (I was a victim of this particular one twice, once with Crusader Kings 3 Console Edition, once, and most recently with Rugby 25). It's hard to stay hyped up when nothing lives up to the hype anymore, I doubt GTA6 is an exception, especially with how people remember GTA5 less for GTA5 and more for GTA Online, which, years later is still a buggy and broken mess. Hyped up for a new ANime? Too bad it's only going to be on a streaming service noone uses.

In the US, Zootopia and The Bad Guys were fun both in and outside the furry communities and had a good buzz/hype about them. Assuming the 2.0 movie aren't all "messaged" to death, I think the hype will be fun and relevant for both. So yeah, there's still some fun hype entertainment out there.

The Mandeloran was solid and fun with good buzz around it until politics killed it. Loki was also good and had some buzz around it until it got too bizarre at the end. His Masters Dark Designs was great for the first couple of seasons too, had good hype in the US anyways.

I only get hyped about anime these days. Which is why I'm eagerly awaiting panty and stocking season 2.
