I did so, so many things with my lovely American boyfriend this week. I had been saving up for this particular visit for some time, working as much extra as I can. I'm getting to that age in life where it's time to get out of the goon cave once in a while and go do things, you know?
We did more than I care to share here, but some highlights:
- We went to a wolfdog sancturary in Cochrane and met some good boys in person and fed them treats. You get to go in the enclosure if you get the immersive tour, it's quite nice.
- The world's most amazing ice cream is also in Cochrane, btw. Chocolate is always the only option for this balloon!
- Sky360 at the Calgary Tower. Pretty impressive views and also the food is incredible? Though it really should be at THAT price.
- The Calgary Zoo! Apparently they took the yeeners out during covid which is disappointing but we got to see all kinds of critters. The Asia section is undergoing major renovations. Also hot take but: they should really rip out the dinosaur statue park and replace it with an Australia section. It would have to pretty much be all indoor due to the climate, but worth it murrhaps? Also bring back the pandas!
- We went to Banff and saw the mountains up close. We also rode up a gondola up a mountain, took a footpath up to the peak of a neighboring mountain, and you better believe that we kissed up there! The Fox Hotel is incredible and their underground cave-themed hot tub is wonderfully romantic at night.
- West Edmonton Mall has...so many things now. Though I'd have to say that the highlights for us were the World Waterpark and the shooting range where we fired a couple of pistols and a rifle each. One of the target papers has a blue bear that looks suspiciously like Dobson, which was hilarious. The wave pool was a lot of fun, I weighed nothing and I could hop around like a balloon on one toe. I couldn't go on many of the slides due to the weight restriction, but we did go on the Howler and the dual tube ride. I got the friction burns to prove it, too!
- We picked the Deluxe Roman room at the Fantasyland Hotel and that was the first time either of us slept in a round bed, or used a round jacuuzi with a marble statue behind it. Or one immediately adjacent to a living room. Lovely room, though.
- Many, many other restraunts that I'm too lazy to mention here. The Maple Leaf in Banff was pretty nice tho.
And we can't forget all of the hugs, the smooches, the cuddles, the terrible puns, the tickle fights...man, it's always so hard to say goodbye at the gate, but it's not forever at least. We're thinking about going camping this summer. If we go far enough north murrhaps we can peep some awoos out in the woods. :3
