As the title says, some good and some bad news concerning Cubsitting Simulator. It took me a while to organize my thoughts, but I wanted to be open about CSS's future and not spring a surprise on y'all in June.
In summary, I found a new job! Which is awesome, but it requires me to move abroad. To a place where the legal situation concerning cub art is quite unclear to me... Therefore CSS 0.4.X will be final version for an indefinite amount of time, as I'll not be working on / logging into my MrFluffums' accounts while I'm there.
So onwards to what this practically means:
- 0.4.0 will contain a route for each cub, with a slightly rewritten / extended Lola route.
- It'll contain new AI generated art, plus a ton of new scenes.
- It'll contain an epilogue based on the cubs you knocked up and whether you finished their routes. Poly cub wedding ftw!
- As always, it's best to consider the 0.4.0 as a preview build for about a week. With 0.0.2 and 0.3.0 I was sure I tested sufficiently, but y'all found so many bugs regardless, so it's to be expected 0.4.0 will follow the same pattern, and if you'd like to play a stable version you should probably wait a few days :P
- The saves won't be backwards compatible, as the cutscenes have massively changed.
- It won't contain animations. I tried, poor GPUKitty ran out of memory trying to load WAN models almost immediately.
- There won't be a route to knock up the bullies and not have to flee the country (You can still fuck 'm, just need to use protection if you don't want to have to flee).
- There'll be a hiatus for 2+ years + infrequent communication. As I only will be able to communicate while on holiday and I don't know how long I'll stay abroad, it'll be best to consider 0.4.0 the final version for now.
Having gotten all that official-but-important stuff out of the way onwards to my feelings:
It sucks. I loved working on CSS. I loved reading everyone's reactions, your ideas both for gameplay and for new scenes, and generally just the overflowing enthusiasm and positiviness of y'all. I was really afraid I'd get nasty reactions about my use of AI even though it's for hobby use, and I'm glad that y'all took the effort of submitting bug reports and didn't complain about the ample bugs that all versions had. I love each and everyone of you <3
(I'm glad for the new job though. I just wish the laws were more sane and aimed more at protecting actual children instead of protecting furry pixels on a screen, but oh well. It's my choice to move there, so I can't really complain about having to follow their laws now, can I? :P)
I did find it funny I started developing a game about fucking underage animals and it turned quite quickly into a Freudian thesis of frustrations I had with my parents.
Having said all this, having sort of a deadline to get CSS to a relatively finished state did wonders for my productivity. Feels like I squeezed both 0.4.0 and what would have been 0.5.0 into one version lol. And hey, I guess it's better to pause doing something while you still like doing it than having to stop because dev feels like a slog.
Thanks everyone for having joined me on this journey. I really appreciate it, and I look forward to showing you 0.4.0 when it's ready!
