Hello fluffs and fluffettes, I wanted to let you all know that I'll be re-launching https://subscribestar.adult/radix starting today.
This time around we'll have new exclusive early-access to work from AT LEAST TheGiantHamster, Hailberry, Mirri, and more over time. As part of this, I'll also be starting to do some streams of live writing and drawing again. :)
For a while real life became too busy for me to keep it up, but now I have a little extra time, and I could use some help with the server bills over at Pridelands After Dark (PAD).
If you don't know, Pridelands After Dark is a community hub for lovers of Lion King art that seeks to bolster the whole adult-TLK fandom, hosted on a matrix server. In short, that means it's a server we control, set the rules for, and which can be replicated across many other servers. So unlike Discord or Telegram groups, we won't randomly disappear one day (particularly since these services are hostile to cub art). You can join by following directions here: https://www.notion.so/padcrew/How-to-Join-PAD-5e4c78d56....
That said, I do also run a Discord (which is attached to the SubscribeStar), so you can join there as well if you like: https://discord.gg/MsnnnV9! We just can't allow cub art there and most people only use it as a bridge to Element/Matrix. But hey, that can change if enough people want it to!
I don't know if this comment is in good faith, but I'll respond as if it is.
PAD as a group is wide open to all. We exclude no one except the intolerant, and no one who joins is expected to contribute financially.
Running servers costs money. Often significant amounts of money. For most of PAD's 6 year history, I have handled that personally. Now, as the journal says, I could use help. Because without that funding, there will be no PAD, and there will be less of the art we generate for everyone. If that happens, I'm just as excluded as everyone else.
No one is entitled to this, including me. As you say, this is a fandom. We must work together to support it however we can.

If I'm wrong, I'm sorry, but I was under the impression that SubscribeStar was an entirely paid service, there is no free option for low-income/no-income individuals, who comprise a notable portion of this fandom, and often are also the ones most reliant on the escapism this fandom provides. If you're then offering art exclusive to a paid network, then by definition, you are excluding people, as that's what "exclusive" means.
And for the inevitable "It's only $n" argument, how many artists do you follow? How many thousands of artists do other people follow? Multiply that number by whatever the lowest cost tier is on your SubscribeStar. Whatever that number is you come up with, that's what you're encouraging this fandom to cost to participate in. That's the reality of exclusive content. See it early? Sure! Higher resolution? Absolutely! But to withhold art entirely from your fans, in a subculture fandom? It's an unkind thing to do. It's not "work[ing] together to support it however we can," it's intentionally further segregating a fandom already struggling with in-fighting, factioning and exclusion.
It hurts to see, there is no need for it, and I will never accept it.
If I'm wrong, I'm sorry, but I was under the impression that SubscribeStar was an entirely paid serv
There is need. Donations have not covered the server costs. Even though I've been an active creator giving my time (and money) away for free for many many years, that just doesn't happen. The perks of early access can cover these costs.
Any time money is involved things will become somewhat unfair. Despite effort, I don't see a way around that. You can complain if you like, but you've offered no alternative solution, and I'm the one so far donating the money, time, and effort.
Almost everything on the SubscribeStar eventually gets released. When the world is a good place and creating safe furry spaces like PAD is free, I'll happily release the rest of it.
If it helps, think of not whining about the small percentage of things you don't get to see as your donation/contribution to the system. But don't discourage the people actually making things. Encourage others with the ability to support them. The faster that happens, the faster more things become public.

but you've offered no alternative solution,
Early access/high resolution was the alternative I brought up. The verbage used was "exclusive." Nowhere did I see any mention of SubStar being an "early access" system. If that's the case, then there is no issue. There's just no reason to permanently lock art behind a paywall and exclude fans.
To this day, I've never seen any concrete numbers. No one has shown a difference between exclusive and early access numbers. That's not to say there isn't a difference, but no one has shared any fandom-specific data on the subject. The only thing I've seen is people running exclusive content campaigns complaining about their content being pirated until they finally get upset and leave altogether, abandoning the fans they have left after alienating the rest.

Ah, well in my head "early access" is the standard for SS/Patreon sites. I don't personally know any that are primarily or even mostly exclusive (though I don't doubt they exist). Perhaps we made different assumptions, there.
So to be clear: my SS is almost entirely early access. There are two types of fully exclusive content: works in progress (both mine and others), some unused concept sketches, and art that I don't have permission to release elsewhere for whatever reason. Everything else gets released over time.
In my description I did describe some of the work as "exclusives". My intention was "things that are being created especially for PAD", not "things that won't be released outside SS", but I can see where that is ambiguous. I'll look to clarify that language. That kind of "exclusive" really never occurred to me.
So hopefully there's no issue. Yes, I believe in everyone having the same eventual access as much as possible.

Yeah, that's totally cool then! I apologize for any misinterpretation on my part. :3
Sadly, the whole paywall thing is still rampant, whether in the form of entirely exclusive art, or arguably even more egregious, specific sexual orientations or preferences being targeted as paid-only variants, while the artist's personal orientation/preference is released for free...
