Inkbunny is my favorite website, truly.
It's the one furry art gallery site where I feel fully safe to be myself, without having to worry about getting banned. I'm an ex-nazifur and I'm permanently banned from all the other furry art sites due to past off-site activity, even though I have disavowed previous conduct several years ago. Most of the furry subculture has very little tolerance for people with autism that engage in antisocial behavior through their 20s due to slower social development; everyone "should know better" by then you see, so it's fine for them to never get an opportunity to learn and grow as a person. But Inkbunny isn't like that, and it's allowed me the opportunity to walk back those mistakes and have a proper home online for my artwork. Many people complain about IB enabling far-right people, but it's more complicated than that. People need space to change over time. I'll always be grateful to Inkbunny for giving me the space I needed to change in that way.
I also appreciate that Inkbunny allows *all* furry art pretty much; furries have a very disingenuous relationship with their sexuality on average and tend to despise cub, even though a very large portion of furry porn they consume plays heavily with a lack of consent (see: forcefeeding, outright rape, hypnosis, transformation etc). You won't find that hypocrisy here. This lack of content censorship also tends to filter out clout-obsessed people that like to control things; that crowd sees it as unbecoming to one's character to even have an account here, and I think that's a good thing. It makes the site a lot more like the furry fandom I knew when I joined up 20 years ago. No gatekeeping, no constant callouts, etc. Just people enjoying a hobby. It's awesome.
It's also one of the most capable sites in terms of software. We're only now seeing FurAffinity begin to gain some of the functionality that Inkbunny has had for decades (tags, username changes). Still, it's not perfect. I'll always use it either way, but here's some stuff I'd do to modernize the site:
• There's a lot of older assets (mostly icons) that would look better and be smaller in filesize if they were replaced with .svg versions.
• A responsive design for mobile would make the site easier to navigate, though I hope this can be done while keeping the fun style of the navigation intact.
• There should be an option for images with blocked tags to be removed entirely from view instead of simply having their thumbnails hidden. This exists.
• Profile links could do with a major overhaul. Not just in terms of .svg icons but also the variety. The easiest way to do this would be to increase the available icons by a small amount, but then also allow custom icons to be uploaded with full control over where exactly the URLs point to.
• In-line image uploads that aren't connected to submissions could do a lot in terms of more immersive journals and stories on here.
Do you agree with these? How would you improve this amazing website?
