Current "AI" isn't art. Or music, or writing, or anything else we put in the "artistic" bucket.
Does it create stuff? Sure, but it's not artistic.
Creating just means taking stuff that exists and making something new out of it. Humans doing artistic things are doing exactly this too - not arguing that point.
The point I'm arguing is that whatever AI creates isn't artistic. When a human does something artistic, they're pulling from their personal, subjective experience of life, which is something the current AI technology can never hope to achieve. We don't even know how that subjective experience of life happens in ourselves, and this idea that scraping the entire internet is equivalent to living as a human is the height of arrogance and foolishness.
What you see when an artist posts something is just the proof of work. The Mona Lisa is a receipt. The art is the connection between you and the artist. It's not art after the painter lets the paint dry; it becomes art when someone chooses to interact with the dried mess of pigment splotched on the canvas.
The art happens AROUND the work. It isn't the work itself.
