There it is, the official whatever-you-call-it showing Billy Mitchell has been awarded $350,000 + interest for defamation in his lawsuit against Karl Jobst.
EDIT: ????? I for one have been very well aware for months that this case was about ascribing blame to Billy Mitchell for the self-induced death of Apollo Legend and not directly about Mitchell's scores.
This is the first I've heard that anybody didn't know what the lawsuit was about, and that's baffling. I would think anybody who cared enough to send money to Karl and was following his videos to know when the trial would start would have been following any news they could get. If nothing else this shitstorm should have begun late September 2024.
Which is why I suspect Team Billy is stirring shit up and exaggerating this "misrepresentation" as much as they can. It doesn't make any goddamn sense otherwise.
What happened? You know those chess computers that no human can beat? There's a way to beat them if you figure out how their algorithm works and do very specific things that confuse them.
Billy Mitchell can do that except with law figures. He played this case so stupendously stupidly that the judge glitched out and lost track of the facts. And of basic reality, apparently.
Three basic reasons Mitchell won: 1. Judge didn’t understand Internet & social media 2. Jobst’s cavalier attitude on Youtube convinced the judge any defamation he may have caused was deliberate & malicious 3. Defense failed to show that public was already blaming Mitchell for Apollo Legend’s death within a day or two of his passing ergo the defamation can’t be credited to Jobst
Moral of the story – No such thing as an airtight case – Good guys have to play by the rules, bad guys don’t – When you get in a court case, STFU about it – Cite your sources and don’t speak your own opinions if you can cite someone else’s
No, the trial was not about Mitchell's records, though this was brought up as testament to his reputation. Mitchell sued Jobst for ascribing Apollo Legend's death to him and this was always the core of the case. Was anyone under any other impression?
This seems like another weird mental gymnastic from "Team Billy".
