I put a lot of effort into digitization; after all, I denote the procedure used for each post. I do, of course, improve things over time, and currently, the end-to-end effort for a single piece is under 20 minutes, not including time spent posting. Most of that time is spent photographing the art, and maybe five minutes plus change for digital manipulation and bookkeeping.
Today, I tried borrowing a newer camera (Nikon Z6 iii, as opposed to my usual D3300), and wow is it fancy. I'd sort of brushed off how much better the tech had gotten in the past decade or so, but specifically the autofocus of modern cameras is uncannily good, which saves a lot of effort. Of course, the point would be moot if I bought a good scanner, but I'd rather just use equipment I already have, since it gives really good results and I enjoy the challenge. Nothing digitized with the Z6 has been posted yet, by the way.
Anyway, that brings me to editing. Traditionally, I've done color correction, cropping, and some minor distortion correction in Darktable, and then paint.net to digitally remove mounting tape and other art adjacent to the main piece, if necessary. I'm not sure that I'll continue with the former, though, because I realized don't really mind the tape - it feels more authentic, in a way. Jury's out on adjacent pieces.
Lastly, life's been pretty rotten lately. I'm very fortunate to have taken up drawing because it serves as a pleasant distraction. I am aware that not everybody feels the same way about art, since it can be very frustrating, especially at first, but I try to urge my friends to take up the hobby whenever I can, and I think that anybody reading this should give it a swing too; it can be a lot of fun! All you need is a pencil, some paper, and a chair. Oh, and don't worry about me. I'll be fine.
