Leslie L. Fox or as he's known under his pen name, Dick Huemer had died late last night. I was giving the phone call by "Dick's" sister Lillian Fox who had been looking after him for the past couple years. She said that Dick had passed away around 10:27 pm in his home.
However during that year they had also found some bladder cancer. Which caused Dick to be unable to walk, which eventually led to him being in a wheelchair.
Now for the past couple of days ago around Sunday. Dick had to be rushed to the hospital on account that Dick had fell off his wheelchair.
Lillian had phone me around the time the paramedics had taken Dick. This incident had worried me because, a similar thing happen to my father which led to his death. And sure enough the same has happen to Dick.
Dick was able to return home but the fall had paralyzed Dick and was bedridden until the day he died. He lived to be 85 years.
Dick those who don't know was someone close to me. He was a close friend as well one the original creators of the Jinx Toons. Along side John E. Roth a.k.a Ralph Welsh and Bud Crabb.
Dick was not only responsible for the creation of characters such as Goldie and Roxy but was also gave the creation of the Jinx Toon name.
And Dick was also the very man who taught me how to draw. His style and characters is what I inherited. If wasn't for him, I would have well not been a cartoonist or the person I am now.
I always did say he was an amazing cartoonist, but he himself said that he wasn't all that great. And would have wished he could have gotten some of the old animators like Virgil Ross or Berny Wolf to have taught me better.
