Sorry. This is a bit ranty. Just need to get this out before I head to bed, or i cant sleep.
YT shorts that showed me scenes from the movie got me interested in it and I managed to find it on a streaming service to watch. Now I remember why I stopped watching movies.
A film classic remade with a new twist. And a beloved actor is starring in it? Sounds great.
Starts of ok and then... kinda meh at the end.
But the thing that annoys me the most is the aliens motive.
Here is short version of the movie in case you don't know:
Humans destroy earth's biosphere.
Aliens don't want earth's biosphere destroyed.
So they plan to wipe all humans and all their shit off the earth.
So how do they do it?
They watch humans for presumably ages, hoping they would change. They speak perfect English so there is no communication problem.
Then they wait, wait and wait hoping humanity would change.
When they finally can't wait anymore cause Earth is about to collapse they activate their genius plan.
Land their alien representative in middle of a city in the US. They fly so fast humans think their ship is a meteor about to obliterate earth. Then emergency break and big light show.
Come out looking like a weird alien, illuminating everything with blinding light so its hard to see shit.
Wonder why they get shot all of a sudden.
Alien turns into human and then loiters around with some local humans for a while.
Take samples of earths flora/fauna then initiate apocalypse and wipe earth clean.
Then mom goes "Please don't kill my son."
Alien goes "Oh so humans can change? Apocalypse aborted."

Firstly: So the aliens (who I would like to remind can take human form, can speak perfect English and have watched humanity for at least a century) decide the best way to initiate first contact is by not announcing their arrival and slamming down like a nuclear warhead aimed at the most trigger happy country on the planet. Yeah. Genius. But I guess its an American film so it happens in America. Can't argue with that.
Secondly: Why wait until the absolute last moment when Earth is doomed (or isn't as it later turns out?). Why not appear earlier and be like "You little shits have screwed up. Behave or die."
I am sure having aliens appear telling you you have screwed up should put some heads straight.
Thirdly: If you can take samples of the biosphere to reseed earth after wiping it clean, why do you need to wipe humanity? Take your samples. Await humanities demise. Wipe clean and reseed then.
Eh. Nice try but badly executed.
