Believe it or not the sperm does not just die, it actually looks for something to fertilize and when it cannot find anything, it attacks the fabric of the material. It penetrates that instead of an egg, and will turn clear.
If you don't believe me, and you are a Plushophile give it a try. Spit some on one, then watch for a couple minutes, it isn't right away, but it will happen.
