A horrible Christmas to be had, for sure.
Buckie, the stray we rescued last year, was an old dog who was one of the friendliest dogs I've ever known. He was (mostly) well-behaved, only barked whenever he needed something, and always in a very disciplined manner. His previous owners just ditched him, we found him, and on the day we found him, I decided to start Death Stranding because I was going to be holed up in my room with him. Played that game beginning to end over the next two weeks with him at my side. It's a core memory, now.
A few days ago, his health started to fail dramatically, he actually snapped at my mom, and he was no longer eating or going to the bathroom, and he was in extreme pain. The initial diagnosis suggested cancer and more or less confirmed that his brain was not communicating properly with the lower half of his body. We had to make the hard decision to let him go.
It's been a rough past 17 hours. We were all there by his side as he went. The vets, who all came to know and love him, were also very torn up by his passing. At least he spent the past two years in a good home.
