Teleguard is NOT as safe as you think.
The app WILL scrape your phone's particulars, including phone number, IP address and they WILL provide your information to law enforcement upon request. Many companies practice this, such as Google, Mega Cloud Services Limited, Microsoft, etc and it is within the company's interest to comply with local laws and regulations to continue operating in the region.
This is after Telegram's CEO was strong armed into moderating his gigantic platform by governments, people were seen flocking to other "secure" messaging services like Signal, Session and Teleguard. It's been a few months and the reviews are in. Teleguard is yet another privacy oriented messaging app with a few caveats. If you thought Teleguard was "safe", it aint. It is not certain what the goals of Teleguard are, how it is financed, where its source of revenue comes from and how will it influence its long term operating strategy. If anyone has a clue, let me know in the comments.
Telegram at least has a strategy now. Large user base, add premium only features and earn money through the newly introduced Channel Ads / crypto wallets etc. I still love Telegram and these privacy policy changes will not affect how I use any messaging app in the first place. However it is interesting to discuss an essential and ubiquitous service we all take for granted.
This is also a reminder that end-to-end encryption is not turned on by default for Telegram chats. Only "Secret chats" are end-to-end encrypted.
