i think ignorance is a real problem. i've learned that lot of people see it as just a joke. Honestly that is what distresses me the most. There's this joking support for something abominable without necessarily realizing the immense harm that is (and will be) caused. i've cut off anyone in that camp. i don't have the spoons for trying to deradicalize anyone. and i'm terrified for my trans loved ones in red states. it's so fucking scary.

just have to support them as much as i can. ultimately all we have is each other.

It's baffling, really. I, as Sangie points out, find it very hard to believe that anybody under 50 and online truly is ignorant of what is happening. I think feigning ignorance and acting with flippant behavior is a defense they think will hold water, when what's really going on is- they hate trans people.

At least in the case of the furry community, it seems to be very harshly centered on transphobia. Especially from gay and bisexual men. Many of them seem to want to pass themselves off as not actually being a bigot. Explaining away that it's about the economy and all the "fear mongering" from the left is a lie and we should all get along and yadda yadda".

When really. They are just bigots. They do not deserve our friendship or empathy. Only derision and pity.

Any support for hatred at this point is an insta-block for me.  But I don't see the MAGA-denial as hatred.  It's protection for the self.

Getting on bluesky, has made me realize a lot of these people form their self-worth and enjoyment by causing outrage.  The angrier people are, the more they believe they're in the right.  The best way to deal with this is not to try to convince them, that just feeds into their feelings of justification.

Just cut em out, and let them stew in their own little echo chambers of hate until they HAVE to self-reflect.  At that point, they either have to do some introspection, or spiral, but either way, it's not killing me inside to have to look at it and wonder why people can be so hateful when one of the first lessons we're all supposed to learn is to treat others the way you want to be treated.

You're not wrong.  But my point was that that hatred is because they hate themselves, and fear the 'other' to the point that they're only way to cope is to throw that at us.  So, if we cut that easy target out, they only have the hatred of others like them to baste in.  With any luck, they begin to have to introspect.

Put another way, I saw a video claiming that these people all have more 'liberal' (dirty word -_-) people in their life they care about BECAUSE they provide that buffer between the hate that infests their own.  Once that buffer is removed, once we collectively begin to say 'fuck you, your not ruining my space' they have only their own crusty socialization to look forward to.

Lots of conservatives who's only personally trait is 'own the libs' will then have to realize that they don't actually like each other.  They'll canabalize each other, and should we keep ourselves angry enough to not let them back in, It's either change, or continue to suffer.

Just woke up, so i hope this makes sense.

Reminds me a lot of the constant battle against toxicity that game developers face.  It's a persistent problem, and they've tried a plethora of ways to combat it, but nothing seems to work.
Nothing, that is, except zero-tolerance permanent bans.
You can guess why developers would be reluctant to use this method: they like money, and shitheads have money.
However, shitheads also scare away non-shitheads, and non-shitheads have money, to.
So you permaban someone for slurs, death-threats, and the like.  Maybe they'll make a new account and try again, but most online games require heavy investments of time and/or money, so perma-banning is still a hefty threat.
Why zero-tolerance?  Because shitheads thrive on poking the boundaries of tolerance.  Slap 'em on the wrist and they'll stop... for a while.  But they'll keep prodding, and keep prodding, and maybe they'll step over a line and earn themselves a real consequence, but in the meantime they're alienating your audience, and will continue to do so for as long as you let them.

tl;dr: burn that bridge.  Fuck 'em.   Push 'em out.
I wish IB had more effective blocking tools.

Exactly this. Once the tolerance paradox is in effect, no tolerance bans are necessary.

The tolerance of the tolerant ends at a certain point. They pushed us here because they rejected our friendship and love. Now they get nothing.

I agree, too. The "ban" feature is weak. I want full on blind-ass blocking.

The irony is, a lot of the hateful people harassing others online (here and elsewhere) are refusing to admit that people are regretting and instead going "you'll be fine!" and "See? they're not [x]phobic! You're safe!" or "They love immigrants" (That last one is your head so far up your ass you can taste the koolaid you just drank, dear god...) But they refuse to see the LARGE NUMBER of people now freaking out that their queer and immigrant relatives no longer want to associate with them, that their jobs will be paying less/no bonuses because of tariffs, that prices of a LOT of imported goods will be taxed to Hell and thus cost more (The US can't produce a LOT of stuff, most heavy metals for technology is imported, so expect a 30-70% increase in the cost of any technology), and because they realized that their own families aren't fully legal or regardless of legality are still going to be deported. There's also those who are freaking out because they're fiscal conservatives and the cabinet picks + the tariffs are -VERY MUCH- against their own interests. But if you point even a droplet of this stuff out, the cultists will bitch and moan and make up excuses and say anything they can to mock and attack you.

It’s good you’re setting boundaries, no one is promised access to anyone else’s attention, time, or anything else.

Me, I’m already exhausted and we haven’t even started yet. But I refuse to give up or surrender to these tyrants. As for my empathy and sympathy, they shall have none. If maybe they can finally start admitting they made mistakes and make decisions and actions to help us, maybe then. But my feelings such as those are reserved for those who didn’t vote for this, and are being injured anyway. They deserve it a hell of a lot more.

*sigh* Okay, I toss in my own political standing: I live in Hungary, so American politics aren't really affecting me directly. I mean it does since possible co-working between countries, but at my level it's not clearly noticeable.

In Hungary, the current government (FIDESZ) is ruling for 14 years already, with the same man (Viktor Orbán) at the helm, and it affects me directly, and i wish for real change, since things aren't as rose-y as they could/should be! Imagine if your government would be run that long! I know: Crazy!

I wrote exactly ONE political Journal, since it was about such a dumb decision, that it would be world-altering dumb: Our government wanted to TAX the Internet usage based on Gbytes traffic above a level - See the link above for the silly story! If that dumb decision was passing, you can bet the rest of the world would have copied it! We stopped it dead on it's track! It was a FAD news even in Germany and America!

I acknowledge that the current American winner party/person are very not pro-you, but that's all I can do about it...That's all.
But I can offer my emotional support. That's all the support I ever wanted to have from people who I only known from the internet. =;3

No, absolutely not. Tolerance is not a principle of moral absolute obligation that you're bound to unilaterally. Tolerance is two-sided: a form of social contract requiring BOTH SIDES to meet certain requirements to get the benefits. The contract is that if you allow me my freedom to exist as the person I truly am, I will return the same to you.

That person, if your story is true, should not have vandalized your car.

That said- not caring about others is your problem. Apathy is not neutrality. Claiming neutrality is an excuse for narcissism and/or apathy. Let's say you were starving, and I had extra food. You asked me for some of my food, and my answer was, "Sorry, I simply don't care about the starving people in my country. They can exist as long as they don't bother me."

I don't know the details of German law, but here in the US- at least as it applies to trans people today- the LGBTQ are equivalent to the starving and homeless. Any notion otherwise is a lie and political propaganda to fuel hatred and fear against us.

The reason we seem to be "making our personality about one thing" is because the forces against us are consistently using us as bargaining chips on the world stage. We cannot live comfortable, peaceful lives as things are. That is not us making ourselves about the issue. That is the world FORCING us to be about the issue.

This is entirely understandable... unless you are selfish and likely, privileged. Which you are. You can only stop being selfish if you accept that you currently are, and see outside of yourself.

YOU need the personal growth. The call is coming from inside the house.

They are frequently complaining that they're being blocked or cut off because of any damn reason but the right reason. They'll try to justify it saying "Family is divine!" "You're removing friends over stupid reasons!" and so on, because they want to be close to you so they can inject their toxicity into your life. They're the kind of people who would tell a child to not tell the police that their parent is touching them because 'that would break the family up, and that's bad!'
