After nearly 54 years.........

by
I am now officially free from cable TV!

In November, 1970, while I was at a babysitter (I was, after all, only 5 at the time), I got exposed to several TV shows I fell in love with:

Star Trek
Lost In Space
Batman
The Monkees
The Flintstones
The Jetsons
Twilight Zone

In January, 1971, we did get cable.....

In more recent years, I have, of course, bought all these shows, and many, many more that I've watched, on disc (especially Blu-ray), and as I rely more on internet TV than cable TV (even for local news), and with my mother now in hospice care (and she was the more TV-addicted of us two), it was time to finally sever the cable TV, so I have. I no longer need it, I have most of what I want...... :) It is now gone.....

So, excuse me whilst I ride out this major storm hitting here, right now.....

I long told my mother, I can get what I want, TV-wise, through internet TV and DVDs/Blu-rays, that once she's gone, I'll get rid of it. So I did. ;)

I hardly watch TV anymore, if at all. The election results were disenfranchising enough. TV as a whole has gone too corporate, a mindless melange of "fuck you, pay me" mentality.

And the utter lack of creativity, especially in the last couple decades.... I mean, there are occasional good shows, but they're few and far between..... (And the movies aren't much better...)

I never had it.  It always cost too much.  I quit TV twenty years ago when I came to Oregon, and it turned out the reception is horrible around here.

You're 15-20 miles away from the nearest TV station (Albany), so I'm not surprised... :O Here, until 1987, we only had 3 TV stations, so cable became something essential.... Now, internet TV gets me more interesting stuff.... The only thing I haven't gotten set up are sources for regional sports..... (Still a few months before baseball returns, so.....)

Cable TV and linear viewing is dying. I wonder how long OTA TV will last.

Changing, but not truly dying.... A lot still like live TV, but want it via streaming, rather than cable or antenna....
