Regarding the use of AI to recreate Krezz's characters:
In general, I’m not opposed to the use of AI, even for training AI models. (I’m familiar with how the training process works—a Lora model, for instance, isn’t just a gallery of images used as direct references. Instead, an AI model uses the provided images to conceptualize objects, styles, forms, and so on. It essentially understands and generates variations, rather than copying, and it doesn’t store images to assemble a 'Frankenstein'). In fact, there are already models based on the styles of Palcomix and Mobius Unleashed. As with piracy, I’ve given up trying to fight these developments. Instead, I choose to trust in people’s goodwill and hope they’ll support my work.
That said, the issue with using Krezz’s images isn’t about training an AI on his art itself, but about using his characters and the world he created. It would be the same even if you didn’t use AI. I’m certain that Krezz wouldn’t have wanted to see his characters portrayed in ways he didn't liked—for example, in practices like scat (just to give one example). Sadly, he is no longer with us to provide permission. However, his memory remains, as do his fans, who also love his characters. Personally, I wouldn’t like to see Edna depicted in a unnatural way for her,
I’d like to ask you one thing:
Please, don’t create AI models of Krezz’s characters. You can try creating a Lora model using his style and generate your own character inspired by Krezz's style, just don’t use his characters. If you do so anyway, I urge you not to make them public. If you create images without asking permission, don’t publish them, keep them for your private fantasies.
I realize this might come across as hypocritical since I work on parodies of characters. But I like to think that the difference is that these characters I do typically belong to multimillion-dollar corporations, not independent artists who passed away without receiving the recognition they truly deserved. When i was asked for doing particular characters from independent artists I always ask for permission, I hope you understand
If you want to create fanart (with or without AI) of krezz characters, is ok, but please ask me first, I'm the one who currently is authorized by his family (and him) to take care of krezz legacy,
