Kinda bored of AI

I think it's a neat toy, like playing with action figures, but meeeeeeh... in the end it's gambling on getting a specific thing done, which it never does 100%, so it's much more direct and faster to draw.

Perhaps in the future it'll have much more useful things, but it may have to rely on a kind of skeleton to adhere to, but even then the lighting/style/eyelines/infrastructure/coherency/mood/feeling/detail would be all off. and even then the skeleton would still be more interesting, like how Kirby was a placeholder character initially, and Nintendo loved it so much, they kept him.

It's kinda like Pinocchio but without the sentience and desire to be real.

Art drawn by a human is so much more interesting to look at. That human has interests, desires, flaws, learned skills and all that bleeds through in the art they create.

If I look at a lot of the AI slop being posted here it's 90% the same poses and same style. A lot of em don't care, as long as it's a pretty picture, but not having an artistic eye shows when the composition is bland and shit and all the colors look washed out and average.

Granted, I've seen some really great AI works, like this one great comic I came accross. Those people clearly have some innate talent and should just learn to draw; it'll give much better results with some actual soul.

Since you actually have artistic talent, you could make the best use of new technology and tools like Stable Diffusion. Have you looked into ControlNet or img2img? They can take a sketch you drew, ink and color it for you, and then you can edit it/fix any issues. Because that's so much more productive in terms of time and effort involved that's probably how most professional art will be done in the future.

Stable Diffusion lowers the skill floor for art so anyone can create something, but it doesn't affect the skill ceiling so people with actual artistic talent will still make the best art. It's just another tool like layers and Ctrl+Z that digital artists can use to improve their workflow significantly.

In any case, thanks again for sharing your art with everyone! Whatever you decide to do, best of luck with it!

Originally we were all worried that AI was going to replace artists, but thankfully that turned out to not be the case solely because this technology is always going to have its limitations. Not unlike all other mass-produced goods, handmade compositions will always have greater value attached to them. AI art is always going to be here, but ultimately it's going to be real art that's consistently more highly sought after.

There's a lot of factors with AI that determine what you get out of it. The particular model you use, if you are using certain loras and checkpoints for a particular look or style, how much memory is available. Unless you are using a pre-set up generator, it can be pretty hit and miss, and even then there are a lot of things you can do to tweak the results you get.

In a way it's a lot like vegetable farming. You can do a lot of work taking care of the plants, ensuring they have the perfect conditions to grow and produce, but you won't always get perfect vegetables, and will have to sort through what you do get to find ones that are good enough for your standards.

AI will get better over time, only question is how quickly that will happen, and how available it will be to the general public. But even then you are still depending on a lot of variables you can't really control perfectly. AI is an amazing tool that can be used not only by people who can't draw themselves, but also by artists who want enhance their own works, or have an easier way to take care of aspects of the artwork they may find difficult, such as backgrounds or shading.

The stigma around AI art comes down to a lot of bad information and fearmongering, honestly. The notion that AI art will completely 'destroy' art and make artists obsolete. There will always be a market for hand-drawn artwork, just as there's still a market for hand-made good even with over a century of automated manufacturing. It simply means that artists will have to offer a better product for people to purchase. You'll likely see a lot of people who used to try to sell poorly done sketches for unreasonable prices no longer able to draw in commissioners so easily without also improving what they offer, since people could get something better for cheap (or free) through AI. Artists that provide a better service, or who genuinely want to improve their work will still get commissions, but will have to be more competitive in providing a better product for people.

If anything, artists might find more people will end up asking for commissions and use AI art they generated as references for the artist, which might end up making things a lot easier for some artists, as having a good amount of references to draw ideas from can be helpful.

GenAI right now is stuck with a shitty text to image interface because the hype men want to sell it as The Next Big Thing, so they want to trick people into thinking the tech is Smart and Human instead of just another tool.

As a result of lacking some proper hands-on options and transparency in its processes, you're stuck doing the equivalent of programming by shouting at a coder from a different building.

I said at the beginning that people would get bored of it. There's just only so much fun you can have when the creative process is mostly out of your hands.

Yeah, AI can't replace humans when it comes to making art. Sometimes it looks good but it is not by the person but simply the person being lazy and letting AI do all of the work instead of doing it yourself .
