30 Years

I look back and see what happened the past generation. Born from Vancouver then moved to Surrey with my family. watching cartoons on VHS and my grandparents' home (They got more channels than we did).

At our home We were only tuning into CBC, CTV, Global, KVOS TV12 (now MeTV) and watched some cartoons from the 1980s, 90s up to the 2000s. When we went to my grandparents, they got Teletoon, YTV, Fox Kids (later 4Kids, nevermind the one in between) Space (now CTV Sci-Fi) and Family Channel.

Teletoon was the channel i had the most fond memories from, cartoons like CKND, Samurai Jack, Tartakovsky's Clone Wars, Spider Riders, SkyLand, The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy, Ben 10, The Batman, Etc. There's also Teletoon Retro, looking at cartoons that range from familiar to new (to us).

I always saw Teletoon as Canada's own Cartoon Network, before ironically and officially becoming Cartoon Network.

And this is during the whole time when me and my sibs were spending time at Traditional School, instead of usually Elementary School. Of course, as a kid, i never really wanted to read. Comics, only for the art and visual storytelling, with Novels they're only text (saved for a few novels with artwork). Ironically, i improved my writing since i first starting telling my stories by just reading some books that caught my interest.

It was around my high school years when i started reading manga and later reading novels. but not in North Surrey Secondary like i hoped, but Johnston Heights which i loathed and never have any intentions of going back to. The only good things i remember there was the Anime Club, Film Studies and listening to Rez Soundtrack while doing math. I felt like i'm back in Traditional School with the kind of work i got and not treated like the other students, mainly because of my autism i always work at BASES classes (a classroom for mentally disabled people).

Once i graduated, i'm finally able to work on my stories without being interrupted by teachers and SEAs (Special Education Assistants).

2017 was a let down of a year, having spend a year dealing with my cousin's wedding, the wildfires, LWA was a colossal disappointment and SolarShower Punk was a travesty that never even got finished, i grew depressed and spent a week in Edmonton to calm my nerves. It wasn't easy with my mother i went with, but i made it.

2018 was a little better, but still felt overwhelmed.

But 2019 became the very year who i am today. Travelled to the Vancouver Aquarium (first time since high school and perhaps last time since) where i was fascinated by marine life and the importance of the Earth's oceans and how it means to the larger world. So much so i dodged my family reunion just to go to the Aquarium for Shark Week, the world means more to me than my own family.

But then 2020 came and went, and with it the COVID-19 Pandemic. I was told to stay at home to avoid getting contagious, but i chose to go outside and keep my body fit, of course keeping my distance, wearing a mask and washing my hands. What could've been a year of trauma, turned into my blessing, giving me inner peace and away from the bustling and crowded environments i endured the past year. I of course worked on some stories that year like Pandemonium Peter and ECHO-1.

I've made friends then lost some (both RL and online), some i forgot others i still remember. Either way, i can only hope they have a good life. And wishing myself good luck for another nineteen or even seventy years from now.
