[Share Your Thoughts] Social Media and Art

by
To be honest, social media has actually in a way ruined the industry of creation as a whole. So many creators these days simply create for the sake of attention and numbers and statistics now days rather than just simply posting just because they simply feel like letting the world see their ideas come to life and shared in a way to maybe motivate and inspire and such.

Those were certainly good times indeed. I for one have not posted a thing in years but It has not stopped me from doing what I do simply because I love it. You see, it's not the fact that I can not draw or create. It is more so that I am getting rusty because things move so fast these days and I practically can't keep up haha, but I still do what I do! I enjoy what I do. I care not for who sees it or what they think or anything. I am simply just happy to share my thoughts and creations with the world like a true creator because what we as creators do simply comes from the heart and the mind.

It is similar to how a little child can make the silliest of art and they feel pride in what they do and parents congratulate them and they continue to do so simply because they like to express themselves and they enjoy it. They care not what others think. They are simply happy to express themselves through the art of creation and share it with the world where a proud parent tends to hang it up on the fridge for all to see and they feel the inspiration to continue on without shame or fear.

Social media has unfortunately ruined that beautiful mentality because it leads to others getting broken down and feeling like nothing because they do not get enough supporters or views like someone else or they stress too much to be like someone else rather than themself. What a world. That's just my two cents. Sorry for my rambling as well but I do hope it helps.

Do not let such things get to you. Just do what you do because you want to and do it for yourself to express and share your unique ideas with the world and become that unintentional role model to others who see your great works as inspiring and in some cases...helping them bring their ideas to life via commissions and such. That is all.

Social media has pulled one of the worst kinds of human -the narcissist- out of obscurity and put him in the front row. These are people who need constant validation, constant praise, and an audience, and the Internet has given them all that. Doing your art just for fun and sharing it with friends has been substituted by an obsession with being trendy and relevant to the meme of the minute.

There was a time when I cared about it and researched what kind of comics were popular. There results were that stick figure comics about video games were number one in popularity. Since I had no interest in that, I continued drawing what I enjoy drawing, even if it has a small audience. ( ᐢ (oo) ᐢ )

There is so much truth to that statement and relation in a way, and frankly it's the best I'd say. In my case, I will admit I tend to go down that path when I run out of ideas and I'd like to call it fan art if not sometimes R34 lol (Keeps me doodling in the zone to avoid the risk of art block)

Yeah, I have done it too. No art exists in a vacuum, I make jokes about trendy stuff and I have drawn versions of popular memes. The problem starts when it's just the meme with no substance underneath. For example, people on TikTok making videos of themselves doing every single popular crap, repeating the joke a thousand others already did, all with the same sound bit, without adding anything, without even trying to make it personal. It becomes a mechanical process, the opposite of creativity.
