Officially Carpal Tunnel! Any Tips?

Officially got diagnosed on Wednesday, I have carpal tunnel in the right hand, and as of last night, awful burning sensation in my left hand's fingers where I cut myself last week because I couldn't hold the knife properly at work, haha..ha...*Internal screaming, insert the ' This is Fine' meme.*

I go back to school in 3 weeks, I only work for another week, and I'm quite anxious, drawing hurts, painting hurts, and I got some anti-inflammatories and a prescription for physical therapy, so I have to find someone that takes my international student insurance.

Do any of you have carpal tunnel? How do you get around the pain and constant swelling? I got a cheap brace to help for work and daily activities, but I'm worried this will affect me in art and in becoming a vet tech. I know a lot of people have it, I'm just an anxious little bundle of nerves and would like some tips and tricks to work around it.

You're all lovely.

Kriotherapy worked for me couple years back, though I didn't have full carpal, just the first symptoms. I don't know if it'll help the same (or that fast) if you already passed that stage. Since you already have prescription from a real doctor, stick to it.

Try to not force your wrists into being tense, maybe try some relaxing excercies, but don't overdo it - at the first sign of pain stop. For a more immediate relief, try wraps. There are some elastic bands, about 5-10cm (2-4in) wide, you can wrap them around  the wrists (and I would recommend both hands, since now you're most likely be compensating with the left for the pain in the right) and thumb to keep the muscles supported from outside. Just be careful not to wrap them too tightly, as this will cut off circulation to hands, and that would agrgravate the pain. You should be able to get some relatively cheap.

Aogami decided to start splitting their work between their hands.
Draw with right hand for a while, draw with left hand for a while.

Maybe Chinese acupunture? Constant massaging and essential oil treatment may also prove to be beneficial. Sorry that happened to you, dear LobaWolf!! :(

I'm really sorry to hear T.T

A few people at my workplace had to fight this too in varying degrees of severeness. From what I've heard from them, anything short of getting it operated is just a temporary measure to ease the issues. And although surgery doesn't sound good at all, I've heard from 3 seperate people now that it's been a good descision to get it operated.

But any dotor's advice goes over the word of an internet stranger, so it's best to ask there for guidance.
Here's to hoping you'll get better trough whichever means you apply in the end!
Cheers!

My BF had both his surgery's  done at the same time and thu recovery was sucky he wishes he had gotten it done sooner then he did. I am showing symptoms on my right and he tells me start getting it checked now so you can get it done before the hand is basically unusable like his was.

Oh no!  Pobresito Loba, you don't deserve this! The only thing I can think of is ice to try to control the inflammation, because I'm pretty sure Nsaids do nothing for carpal tunnels

Aww Miss Loba sweetie.  Hmmm, try to keep your hand moving so it doesn't seize up.  Anti-inflammatories sound like a good idea, but you really need a professional opinion, that's for sure.

When I had the beginnings of it at work, the brace helped a lot as well as just not putting strain on it for a couple of weeks.  In my case, and I think most, as long as you baby it some it'll get better.  If you keep trying to use it it'll get worse =<

A gyroscope helped my wrist a lot. It actually stopped hurting after a while.
