Some background on Jim and Fred

I know Jim is light on back story that's been published, so I'm gonna type this up, post it here, and a few other places if I can eventually, but here is why he can't just "bounce back" from what Fred did.. Jim didn't grow up with a dad none, so Fred was the only positive male influence in his life, the few boyfriends his mother had were never really accepting of HIM except as a boundary or nuisance to their relationship. So, he gravitated towards Fred at an early age.  So yeah, the Mister Rogers stuff may have been a bit trying at times, but it was something that helped him cope, and it was never done maliciously.  Fred's seen a bit of what Jim did to get where he is, but as a doctor, it's not like he had a lot of time to dedicate to someone elses kid.. He tried mind you , but there's a limit.. So when someone who is the one strong point in your life says... "I have no confidence in you and what you're trying to do, and I think what you're saying is nonsense."  it hurts... and it hurts a LOT.. It's not an easy thing to "Bounce back" from.. And of course it's going to eat in the back of his mind.   I just... you all have to realize time isn't exactly passing by quickly in strip either, in Jim's eyes this has all happened inside of a week... I'm sorry I can't convey this better, but we're limited in what I can do on a weekly strip.

Hey no need to explain. I personally felt it was obvious how Jim felt about Fred...and that what he said hurt big time. Anyone in Jim's position would need ALOT of time to deal with it.

Yeah, this kinda stuff can wreck a person. sometimes you never "bounce back" and sometimes relationships are lost over this kind of thing.

I can understand the dynamics here. What Fred did was inexcusable. Words Can & DO hurt!!! What he did had made Jim go into a Shudda Wudda Cudda thoughts and it can pull you into a Downward Spiral. And with his choice of words it also left Fred's wife with picking up the pieces.

We all know Fred's in the Proverbial Dog House, and it will keep being in that spot till he man's up and truly apologize for what he did. And the longer he goes about not doing it will damage if not destroy the Roger family. Josie WILL stay and side with Jim while  being very disappointed with her father. Mrs Roger will probably do something crazy to him if his actions destroy the family.

So he has to do something soon otherwise everyone will soon be brought down from this drama.

I kinda got that from how the ladies talked about their relationship during that part. I won't speak for other readers, but it's totally understandable that Jim's still affected. That's one of those kinds of sudden rifts never really heal all that well, if at all.

Trust me when I say that I feel Jim's pain.  While I did have a father, he made me feel pretty much the same that Fred did when he said what he said to Jim.  I loved my father but he wasn't one to allow you to get close (except my mother) and was rather critical of me and my sister.  Sorry to be a Debbie Downer here but this explanation struck a chord with me.

This may be the 'Clif notes' of explanations in a nutshell, but it says it all for what's going on.

short of the more obvious reasoning on why Jim's hung up, its clear Fred's opinion and words carry incredible weight for Jim. the only thing i think that'd maybe help tell this is a little more of Jim's childhood or history somehow, to have this explination in the comic or it is there somewhere already but not highlighted enough to stick in people's minds. bit of a bane of weekly comics and conveying information
