Discord Scam Update

I just wanted to let everyone know that I'm okay. I'm sorry for scaring you.

I was very worried about my friend who got hacked, and I wanted to trust them, and help them.

I suspected that something was wrong immediately. The way they type and spell was all wrong, like English was not their first language. But I wanted to trust my friend.

Thankfully, I detected that it was bullshit, and stopped talking to them, and contacted real Discord support immediately to report it.

The scam starts out like this.

Them: Hi, how are you doing today? I sincerely apologize for the horrible error I made. Could you please assist me?

Then when you say something, they reply.

Them: I guess I'll simply dive right in. I unintentionally reported your Discord profile for utilizing fake content. Discord support threatened to ban your account if you did not take action in response to someone claiming to be you. If you are able to view the ticket they sent me on the Discord support platform, they reacted to it a few hours ago. I do not want you to get blacklisted as well.

And then send you THIS IMAGE

As you can see, the Discord email they use is fake. And their solution is to add this person to Discord Support called officialdavidtsai.

They then ask you to verify your accounts by sending them money via Paypal.

You should never send anyone any money for any reason. Discord will never ask you for this.

Luckily, I never clicked on anything. I knew it was bullshit after all this spouting, and I acted like I was going to contact support and straighten things out. After that, they blocked me and will no longer reply anymore.

I just wanted to raise awareness, because my friend was scammed, and they lost hundreds of dollars. And I wouldn't want that to happen to other people.

I'm sorry if I scared anyone.

~Love and Peace

The sad part is also that the "support" they want you to add is another person's stolen account. They stole my coyote friend's account and changed it to a random woman icon and named it "SupportteamNyguyen"

This is the scary thing with these scams... they're a well-oiled machine designed to look and feel as authentic as possible.  I hate to say it, but they've got the act down to a fine art.

Sorry about your friend, if it was made via paypal they could get the money back and the other person paypal baned if they report via screenshots, at the very least ban the other person and accounts associated to them so they can't scam others

I'm glad you figured things out in time.

The way these guys are doing things is really more on the high effort/low reward end of the spectrum when it comes to scams. They make it look official enough to get someone who's not on paying close enough attention to fall for it, and they probably didn't ask for a lot of money, either.

People who fall for the really low effort scams (like Nigerian Prince, fake lotteries, etc) are so clueless that they usually end up completely drained.

I hope your friend is able to recover everything that was stolen.

Thanks for the tip. Those scams have been around for a while, but they change the details to confuse people.
I got a similar one and it was from a friend's account too, but I also noticed something strange about the spelling.
Later I found his account had been hacked.
I got so paranoid I started suspecting messages from real friends were scams  ( x (oo) x )

Makes me wonder where these people operate from, what they're thinking as they perform their tasks, and who they really are as people. Not that organized unethical activity is uncommon for people, but I am just wondering about the mindset. Good that you saw through the attempt. Years ago I was tricked by a dating scam. It was very believable and the person claimed to be a young woman who was a prostitute but that she wanted out of her contract. It took me a lot of money to realize that it was just a scam. But poor, young adult me wanted to help a girl out of being forced to do sex work and didn't know anything about that area. I didn't even see through it on my own. My best friend has to tell me what it was before my rational mind caught up with my hormone-stricken desires.
