As I write this it's beginning. I haven't experienced a total solar eclipse since one came to Portland, Oregon, when I was a child. I think that was 1976 or 77, I can't remember.
It's kind of exciting actually, though the darkness that just keeps getting darker does have a kind of foreboding look to it. Clouds, thunderstorms coming in tonight, probably have something to do with that.
Anyway, it's 1:39 PM and getting darker.
If you watch this thing, always remember to wear eye protection, as you're still looking at the sun and even covered by the moon it can still damage your eyes irrepairably.
While it may feel like the end of the world, it isn't. It's a natural phenomenon that happens every so often. I, for one, count it a privilege to have experienced one twice in my life.
