Not by choice, but just because literally all of them are rescue cases, and Texas has a serious pet abandonment problem.
So still with us are Gracie, Dannie and Brownie. Last February we found a stray black lab who is the friendliest boy. We found the owners but they ghosted us; we were able to gleam from vets that recognized him that his name is Buck, and since the owners ghosted us and all the animal shelters are overcrowded (seriously, Texas FUCKING SUCKS!), we made the decision to keep him after failing to find him a forever home and rename him "Buckie" (official name is Buccacino because he needed to have a unique name for the adoption papers). Nicknames are "Buckaroo", "Buckets" and "Needlenose"
Then just last month, we found another dog wandering the streets. Face kind of deformed, teeth like the computer prediction in that one "Lisa needs braces" episode of the Simpsons, nevertheless very friendly, we managed to find the owner, but they are in a losing battle with some illness and can no longer take care of the dog. The dog, Ruby, was in custody of a friend or family member of the owner when they ended up escaping; they were in no position to take care of a dog full time, so we agreed to take her in and rename her Pennie. Nicknames are "Gremlin", "Gruesome", and "Pennini".
