10 Years of Self-Publishing

Wow where does the time go? As usual no one here reads my journals but I'll speak my peace anyway so that when my time comes to an end all can see this as a day when history was being made. On May 17, 2014, my first novel Adam The Forsaken Tales of Extraordinary Beings Book 1 released to online stores. That means the 10 year anniversary is fast approaching. So since publishing anything of any length can take well over a year in clocked in time or about 2 to 3 years because I work a job, I decided to release a poetry book that picks up where my first one left off. I already wrote the poems periodically between 2017 to now I just have to make them an anthology so basically it's all editing and proofreading from here. So more than half of the drafting for production has been done years ago. Now it's just a matter of theming. I do hope you all support the official release whether it's sharing the link with friends or getting a copy for yourself when it releases. I set the date for May 17, 2024. See ya then!

Yay another author!
For me, the writing was the easiest... getting it edited is harder, then publishing is annoying.  Then the hardest part is the marketing to get sales, especially for an introvert like me.

It's all difficult at some level, but if I have to say what was the hardest in the process was taking and applying feedback. It's like the struggle of Marketing, but then you got to face blind spots you should have seen in formatting, grammar, or concept. It's made more painful if you don't have a steady job and depend on writing for income and the critic is talking about something you already paid money to make. I'm a perfectionist, so that to me is harder to swallow than being accused of being something because of what I let characters do there.

I agree with you.  so far, only place I had negative feedback, was from a facebook author's group... where they disparaged my using photos I took for my book covers... and saying negative about a story they had not read... sharing it another place, and they stated that literally they are judging my book on the cover.  I had replied, and challenged them to read my book, then tell me what I "should" have used as the cover.

Writing and finishing is hard.  Editing is a passing pain.  It's the marketing which is hard.

Feedback, I like constructive criticism, and the stuff where they clearly haven't read it... I turn it around and call them out, and challenge them to read it, and then respond again... so far, I have not had any read my story and not enjoy it (or they have stayed silent about it).

Are you aware of the Furry Writer's Guild?

Yes, at one time I did some panels at Further Confusion alongside a member of theirs, but they are Adamant they won't accept anyone who is not traditionally published, and I have no plans of going through that anytime soon. I prefer to work alone and use tools I choose to tidy things up and create the vision my way. Unless they changed that stance, I am not holding my breath on being one of them.

Besides I feel similarly to Rick Sanchez from Rick and Morty about such organizations. The Adamist Adam would never be caught dead joining a league of others not even ones that are derivatives of me. That being said, if you find their resources and help a value to you, go for it, but I am as Adamant that I don't need them as they were not to take Independent Authors. I bear no ill will in saying this as I respect what they are trying to do and the fact they have a vision of how it should be done. Respecting is not the same as agreeing though to be clear.
