New Year, New...Pacing

by
To all of you who celebrate such things: a belated Merry Christmas and a hearty Happy New Year!  I hope the rest of you are happy and in good health too.  :)

The rate at which I upload chapters/stories will be changing a bit in the coming year, starting this month.  I’m going back to posting just once a month, currently planned for the first Friday of each month.

There are several reasons for this, but chief among them is that I just can’t generate enough material to maintain the current pace.  The advantage of writing as a hobby is that my bills are paid even if my stories aren’t very popular.  The disadvantage is that my day-job and other life-obligations limit the amount of time I have available for writing...and I’m kind of a slow typist in the first place.  The material I’ve posted over the last two years represent roughly five years of work, and I’ll have posted absolutely everything I currently have “finished” by around August if I continue at twice a month.  By going back to a once a month schedule, I already know I can upload reliably for at least one more year.

Regrettably, this means that some of my stories (e.g. Patience) will see rather larger gaps between new chapters.  But it also means I can more comfortably control the rate at which I advance my “main” story (Ghost in the Stones, at the moment) and when I can sprinkle in side-stories and more spontaneous pieces.  While it’s an entirely self-inflicted problem, right now I feel obligated to keep bouncing back and forth between at least two story-lines, which don’t always move at the same pace.  I’ve stressed over it more than I should have in the last year.

As always, I want to give a heartfelt “thank you!” to everyone who reads my stories.  I hope you’ll continue to enjoy them in the year to come.

Gratefully,
