Lore vs Flexibility

Just curious to people's take on this.

Do you prefer established lore and era for your OCs, for more world building and story things?

Or do you prefer having them be flexible so can be in most/any given scenario?

A little of both? Or do alternate universe versions of the same character?

The lores for my dudes are pretty malleable. I RP a lot, so it helps fit other characters in if things aren't as rigid.

That’s fair. Thanks for input :)

'Prefer established lore and era for your OC', because your characters often time inform what you make for your world.

Take Tavok for example, he has to come from a high fantasy world to be a Rune Mage, because they aren't cooking those up in the Bronx.

That's fair. Just unsure if I should post what I have for OC lore or not really. Small bits here and there. I have been suggested doing AU for things that would be outside of their "canon" timelines.

Tarok and understandable, though you could also go with modern magical world as well, that utilizes both science and magic.
