AI rant

Please skip if you don't want to read a frustrated rant.

Alright, with that disclaimer out of the way, it is getting ridicules how much misconception there is around AI art.

Just today I had another one on a news site who thinks creating AI art is nothing more then telling to AI to make a picture based on other picture and you are done.
The forget the process of selecting the right training set, picking the right sampler, setting up the controlnet for the desired composition, redacting the first iteration, the repeated inpainting and fixing, the upscaling and finaly the touchups with photoshop if needed.

When you chalange them to try it for themselfs if they think it is that easy they find all kinds of excuses not to do it.

ok rant over, I hope to give you some more pictures over the weekend.

It's not my favourite content but it feels bad that people diminish the effort that goes into good AI work.
Sounds like it's the same way CG and VFX was treated up until fairly recently, people just don't understand what actually goes into creating good content.

My friend, I will tell you: I have always admired artists, I have always followed them and will accompany them. But AI allowed me to do something I never could with my skills: make a drawing. I understand the artists' point of view, that it is a machine that manipulates images, but I still feel fulfilled in finally being able to make my animals cute. So, be happy doing what you like. I'm happy here :)

They're right about the idea that learning to create images with AI is 1/1000 of time investment required to learn to draw manually. It's a fact. 😐

Their misconceptions of whether it takes 10 minutes to get a picture, or 10 hours, is largely irrelevant. What you do today will be obsolete tomorrow. 😁 When the base model becomes smart enough, you won't spend as much time inpainting glitches, because there won't be glitches. When ControlNet-like tech becomes reliable enough, you won't spend as much time adjusting 20 knobs to get upscaling to work the way you want. In fact, there're already smartass extensions like ADetailer that automate some of work which previously required manual inpainting.

In a year, half of all AI directors of today will probably whine and moan how more recent AI directors can skip a lot of hurdles and just enter a simple prompt. 😆

There are so many misconceptions of what AI is and is not, that so many have no idea that it's not any different than CGI or writing a program -- You're simply telling a computer what you want done, and supplying extra code to have the computer use. For the artist, it's really just another tool. There's really no brains on the computer side behind the creation, just that supplied by the user.

(I am old, and AI is even older than me.)
