This is a long established designation, dating at least back to 2007. It has been used in several research studies, by accredited institutions. It is also connected to an initiative spearheading mental health services.
MAP is a serious and relevant term, used for true good in the real world.
A substantial number of people have selflessly come out as MAP, with intent of making the world safer and better for all. Their sacrifice and credible endangerment should not be ignored or dismissed.
People, including those who are literally attempting to reduce things like sexual assault and child abuse, should be able to openly discuss their own lives and experiences, without being targeted with censorship and punitive action.
There is this new policy on IB, where the admin will interfere and delete the content, of anyone self identifying as a MAP. They've made it crystal clear, they will penalize people this way, even where they have objectively done nothing illegal, immoral, unethical or wrong.
The excuse, is that there are some people on the platform using MAP as an identity, under which they trade illegal material elsewhere. Okay. So, IB has adopted the philosophy, that individuals should be penalized for the actions of entirely other individuals who they have no control or influence over. Got it.
Tell me what happens, when these criminal actors decide they want to start using the identities of other groups on this platform. Will that group of innocent people also be blindsided with penalties and abusive overlords? Or will there be a double standard that emerges?
Is IB just going to keep chasing after medical, research and community terms to ban, every time anonymous people who start using them do something illegal or wrong?
See, the MAP community has had a lot of moles and harassers, all throughout its existence. Some have followed and stalked the MAP community, around various internet platforms. Their intent has been to cause trouble for MAPs on the platform. I would suggest, that people who are committing illegal acts under the MAP identity, are harassing and tainting the existing, legal MAP community.
And IB is compounding the issue, by taking it out on the legal MAP community?
If the criminals want to be persistent, then this is an obvious losing strategy. And frankly, it's both immoral and unethical.
You might as well be targeting people because of their race, or for being gay. It makes every bit as much sense, when you are blatantly targeting the innocent, anyway.
I don't even want to talk about this issue here. But what is happening with this, is indefensibly wrong.

Creating and enforcing rules against public social identity [literally, "you can't tell anyone who you are or about yourself"], is complete insanity. And yet, this cancer of forbidding group identity is spreading across many platforms. They're literally stripping people of their voice, based on sexual orientation...an immutable character trait people are born with.

It is incredible cowardice and inhumanity for platforms to do this...and it's especially rich coming from a platform that openly hosts cub porn. It's beyond ludicrous.
I'm not suggesting they have to allow people to make posts, saying that child porn or sex with kids should be legal...but these platforms are deleting posts [and in some cases terminating accounts and banning people], for merely self identifying as a MAP.

I'm making the mistake of actually reading a lot of that thread...Some of it makes my blood boil...simply because it's ignorant people spreading absolutely false information...If they've "heard it elsewhere"...sure, pose the questions...But do not state things as fact, which you don't know!
"MAP", both the term and the flag, did not start as a joke on 4chan. The genesis of "MAP" actually started back in the 90's. During the 2000's, there was a range of communities with nepiophiles, pedophiles, hebephiles and ephebophiles, who dialogued with researchers, mental health experts and each other, to come up with a non-stigmatized term to be used, to promote both research and therapy.
I know this because I was part of that discussion, and was among the earliest adopters of the term "Minor Attracted Person". I was doing this years before it came into popular usage, even among other MAPs.
4chan had nothing to do with it..."MAP" has never been a joke.
I do not know the character or intent of whomever posted the MAP flag on 4chan, but that also did not originate on 4chan. Again, I personally took part in that dialogue...which is not to imply I had a heavy impact on the end item. I did not...but I also know for an absolute fact, that 4chan is not the birthplace of the MAP flag.
Some have tried to undermine the MAP movement, by claiming that it started as a 4chan joke, and every MAP today is just some hapless idiot acting on an "obvious" joke...This has been nothing more than attempts at hijacking the narrative.

I was relatively new here at IB, when this ludicrous turd salad got dumped on us. So I was considerably reluctant to charge into this, given how little time [a few months?] I'd invested here at the time.
I have however, been done extremely dirty by major platforms in the past, on which I had a very long history in good standing...while out in the open about who I am...Then out of the blue they pulled this loopy "you're identity is banned", bullshit on me...No citation of any wrong behavior on my part, ever...No citation of anything I had ever posted...All my contacts, my lists, my followers [over 1,500 of them], suddenly gone for no conceivable reason, other than some administrative prick wanted to kick me off of the platform...after ten years in good standing...and no substantive reason...
When I made the original post in this thread, it was after seeing IB delete one of my own posts, challenging this asinine change in their rules. It's a stupid fucking rule, and they've merely opened themselves up to the nightmare of justifying every instance, of why they didn't ban every other social identity on this platform, based on the actions of their criminally behaving members.
It's not as if gays, lesbians and trans people lack a whole lot of skeletons in their own closets.
