I don't normally post journals here since I've never really had anything I felt the need to post, but today is different. I recently subscribed to a Patreon creator the other day, finding I rather enjoy his/her content. When I went to download one of their video animations however I noticed that there was no download, just a URL which lead directly to Vimeo. Clicking on the link lead to a page with the following message.
Sorry, we couldn’t find that page Make sure you’ve typed the URL correctly, or try searching Vimeo. You could also watch one of the videos below instead.
I have a word of advice that goes out to anybody here who follows an animator on Patreon or is considering doing so, if you prefer to download animations and save them for later use when offline, or on another device I recommend you stay away from Patreon's that use that site, I've come across 2 so far and both lead to a non-existent video and private Vimeo videos can't be downloaded with, say, the inspect tool to get the file. This means you're paying to stream a video, and if you find that you can no longer afford to pay for a constant monthly subscription you're out of luck, all the videos you had access to before will be gone.
I've never under any circumstance considered streaming to be worth payment, downloads are important for future use. The economy only gets worse as the days go on, so you can well imagine why downloads are significant if you value what you've seen. If you don't care about downloading, that's fine I'm only giving those who prefer to download their paid for content a heads up.
