As can be seen in the older version, there are the landing leg retraction wells for the landing legs to withdraw up into when the rocket is in flight. However, I didn't think of the pods not being able to fit flush into the rocket when I originally drew the drawing. Old version:
The improvement now makes more sense for the landing leg retraction wells.
